Byetta and Psychotropic Interactions?

My GP has suggested I try Byetta. I have asked my shrink about
possible interactions with Effexor, Ritalin, Trazadone or Lorazepam,
but he has been unable to find any information. I’ve searched the net
and come up empty myself.

Anyone here have any experience combining Byetta and anti-depressants?

Thanks

Kevin

I’m taking Cymbalta 60 mg daily I have no reaction for either drug. Except the
reaction I want and need. You shouldn’t have any problem with drugs
    interacting.

Have you emailed this question to the manufacturer? They’re the persons who
completed the test trials, if the problem of an adverse reaction with a
psychotrophic drug occurred while testing Byetta, then they would have made a
    record of such events.

    Hi Kevin,

I take Lexapro and I haven’t had any reactions at all between it and the
    byetta.

BUT….i do want to tell you something about the effexor you are taking. It
is BAD medicine. When you decide to go off it (when it quits working or you
no longer need it) you WILL have withdrawals. And it will be bad. There
are several sites on the internet which talk about this. I had taken
effexor for 3 or 4 years, and it quit working. The dr. weaned me off it but
I still thought I was going to die. It was the worst feeling I have ever
had. Why don’t you ask your psychiatrist about this? He will probably poo
poo the idea. Mine did….but then again, he wasn’t the one that went
through it. It was so bad, I actually think it should be outlawed. The
    same happened to my husband.

    Hi Kevin,
I am on Wellbutrin and Zoloft. I haven’t had any issues.
I do wait an hour after taking the morning shot to take the
Wellbutrin, only b/c I read somewhere the fact that the Byetta slows
down digestion would slow down the "digestion" of the medication,
too. I take the Zoloft at bedtime, so no issue there.
    Welcome to the group.

    Hello.
    I am with you Beth.
The withdraw symptoms from Effexor are terrible.
They are so bad that I wish I were dead. And I agree that this medication
should be banned: it is not effective, and does more harm than good at least in
    my opinion)

Effexor was a difficult drug for me. I’ve taken several with lots of side
effects and feeling dead inside and out. Let’s see, I took Wellbutrin, had
anxiety attacks, Zoloft, lived in never never land, Effexor, dead inside and
    out.
Now, I’m taking Cymbalta-it is wonderful, I’m alive, feel great, have energy to
    burn,
I want to live life to the fullest. The best of all, The Clinical Depression,
has gone into remission, where I hope it stays for ever. I didn’t have
withdrawal because I went from one drug to the next.
I started Byetta in March of 06, Cymbalta in June 06. In March I was taking
Wellbutrin with no reaction or drug interaction.

    Kevin,
There are no reported oral drug interactions with Byetta other than with
Mevacor & Tylenol. There are theoretical interactions possible, but to give
    you
a better idea, I would have ot know the dose, frequency, and the length of
time you were each of the meds at the current dose.

PLEASE do not pay much attention to people without any credentials who flatly
say "you WiILL have withdrawals" or other "the sky is falling" type of
statements. If you are stable on ANY medication, you need to discuss any
    changes
with your Physician or suitably trained Pharmacist to get a better idea of
how any change will cause you to feel. All medication, including Tylenol,
Benadryl and Motrin can cause some type of "withdrawal syndrome".

You can take Tylenol without any problems. However it may not be as
    effective as before Byetta.
Regardless of whether you are on Byetta or not, no one should take any more
than 4000mg of brand or generic tylenol (acetaminophen, APAP, MAP, etc) in
any 24 hour period. People with liver problems should take less or none at
all. If you have liver problems, check with the physician treating you for
    your
liver problems as to the safety of acetaminophen.

    Demetria,
I was never so sick in my life as I was for 4 weeks when I went off
Effexor. Nausea, vertigo, felt like I had the worst flu ever. Even after
the 4 weeks I still didnt feel good for a long time. If the nausea from
Byetta is that bad I sure dont want to go on it*G*
