Is it normal?

Sunday, October 30th, 2005

Hello.
If you do not mind I would like to share my experience with Byetta. I would
appreciate your input on how common and normal these effects.
I am quite nauseous to a point of vomiting every night, after this the relief
comes and no nausea.
I feel very weak. Even taking a shower is a chore. I am just drugging my feet
and gladly stay in bed. No energy at all, and of course constant hunger,
dizziness and light headed.
All this when I am taking 5ug. I am afraid even think of what to expect at
10ug.
I would welcome your suggestions and thoughts.
Thank you.
Ellen.

High A1C on Byetta

Sunday, October 23rd, 2005

I had my A1C test after nearly 3 months on Byetta, and it was
elevated. It went from 7.1 to 7.6. For all the nausea problems I had
on the 10 dose, it appears to have not lowered my overall bg. By bg
were higher on Byetta alone, so I am going to 5 mcg Byetta and back on
1000 mg Metformin with it. The DR. wants me to stay on the Byetta for
the weight loss, and add more oral meds if necessary. I got off
Metformin in the first place because of diahrrea, but maybe it will
work better this time since Byetta has the opposite effect. Have
others of you experienced a rise in A1C? I thought the point of
taking it is to get better control of bg.

Maybe Byetta is a multi-function drug. Some people are having great
bg numbers and little weight loss, and maybe some like me have the
weight loss effect, but not much help on the bg, and some get the
benefit of both.

Kristy,

Did you know that hydrochlorothiazide can contribute to insulin
resistance? I just found that out at my last visit with my
nephrologist. I take zaroxolyn and it too can contribute to insulin
resistance. FYI

Considering Stopping Byetta

Thursday, October 20th, 2005

Need some advice and anything else you all can offer. I’ve been on the 10pen
since Sept 4th. The past month, my BS numbers have never been better. Here’s
the problem….the "gas" and constipation has gotten so bad I’m in pain most
of the time. Today I tried some GasX, it helped on the burping. If any of
you have taken metoformin you know the side effect from that is the opposite of
consitipation, lol at least for me it was. I dealt with that and learned what

Vitamin B12 deficiency seen in many metformin users

Thursday, October 20th, 2005

October 19, 2006 11:01:12 AM PST

Although treatment with the anti-diabetes drug metformin has greatly
improved the prognosis of adults with type 2 diabetes, it appears to be
associated with an increased risk of vitamin B12 deficiency, Chinese
researchers report.

Lack of vitamin B12, if unrecognized, causes nervous system damage.
"Because this condition is treatable, and predictable as suggested by
our research, enough concerns exist to call attention to the value of
vitamin B12 screening, particularly among at-risk patients receiving
metformin," senior investigator Dr. Kai Ming Chow told Reuters Health.

"Reports of metformin-related vitamin B12 deficiency have caused us to
question whether this adverse effect is predictable among patients with

Overeating

Monday, October 17th, 2005

Hello everyone.
I read in several messages do not overeat while being on Byetta.
I would like to run by you one of my meals and asking your opinion, if it is
considered overeating.
1 medium size potato and 1egg fried in 1 table spoon of peanut oil and a cup
of tea.
What would be your suggestion for a meal, please?
Thank you, Ellen.

Magnesium and Diabetes

Monday, October 17th, 2005

These are very interesting articles about magnesium deficiency and
diabetes. There are more on the internet you can google.

One of my high blood pressure meds has hydrochlorothorizide which may
contribute to magnesium deficiency, although I eat a lot of green leafy
vegetables….So much to think about.

More Januvia news

Thursday, October 13th, 2005

On the site given in the previous post there is also a page for health care
folk which gives a more technical set of information. Included is the
price. Byetta costs about $200 a month and Januvia will be around $135.
