Fwd: How to travel by plane with BYETTA(r) (exenatide) injection

Friday, September 30th, 2005

Got this email today, wasnt sure if everyone else receives it and thought it
might help someone.

You are receiving this email because you registered on BYETTA.com for email
updates. Some of you may have been concerned about traveling by plane with
your BYETTA Pen given the new airport security restrictions.

• *You can carry your BYETTA Pen in your carry-on
baggage on the airplane.* Keep it with you at all times. Do
NOT put your BYETTA Pen in your checked baggage.

• Store your BYETTA Pen in a clear, resealable bag. Put this
bag into another larger clear, resealable bag. Keep the pen
separate from all your other carry-on items. When you travel
with BYETTA, it should be kept cool. You may ask for ice when

Byetta does not need to be refrigerated

Thursday, September 29th, 2005

The second BYETTA development update I would like to share with you
today is progress towards clearly enhancing the convenience of using
BYETTA for our patients. As you know, we currently instruct patients
to refrigerate their pens, or to use a
cool pack between doses. We have recently demonstrated the stability
of BYETTA at room temperature for the full 30-day pen lifespan. We
will provide this additional data and work with the FDA to obtain
approval for a change in storage instructions. We anticipate that
these new, more convenient instructions might be in use by patients
in early 2007. …….
……We expected to roll out room-temperature storage instructions
for BYETTA in 2007. Lilly is making good progress with the BYETTA
reviews outside the United States and planning for approvals and
launches. We have begun work on a nasal delivery form of Exenatide.
The Exenatide LAR clinical and manufacturing programs are on track

Seeing and ednocrinologist

Wednesday, September 28th, 2005

Okay, there always has to be one in the crowd that is different.

My experience has been the opposite of most. The endocrinologist I went to just
kept insisting I take Rezulin and increasing my insulin. I begged him to let me
stop the Rezulin because I felt so terrible. But stupid me, I didn’t just stop
taking it myself becuase back then I beleived whatever the med. community
said…and besides it said in big letters on my perscription bottle to not stop
taking without your physicians consent. So I kept taking Rezulin, my A1c got
clear up to 11. Of course he just "knew" it was because I wasn’t watching my
diet. And believe me, that wasn’t the case.

Anyway to make a very long story as short as possible, I was too sick to go to
the endo, whose office is 100 miles from here, and went to my hubby’s close by
GP. He ran tests, took me off Rezulin and worked with me until we got my
numbers down in the 5’s and low 6’s…before Byetta even.

Getting lows on byetta

Sunday, September 25th, 2005

There seems to be a small fraction of people who can get a low,ex. less
then 70, using byetta. For some it is because they combine it with other
drugs which prompt insulin but doesn’t stop doing so when blood glucose
levels fall. I’m interested however in those who don’t fall in that
category.

If you would consider answering please, I have a reason for asking but
don’t want to influence answers, how many cups, if any, of coffie do you
drink during the day? After some responses I will say why I’m asking.

TThanks,

Dan

Thank You All for Giving Advice

Saturday, September 24th, 2005

Thank you all for giving advice! We did talk to our friend today
and apparently he has made an appointment with an Internal Medicine
Dr. Not an Endo but it’s a start. My girlfriend is very frustrated
with her hubby and has even told him out right that she is to busy to
take care of him when he starts losing his limbs so he had better start
taking care of himself now! - she’s got the tough love down!

Thanks again

Tami

Byetta Convert

Friday, September 23rd, 2005

Just joining the group and this is my first post. I have been on the
pen for about 6 weeks (bumped from 5 to 10) and am off insulin for the
first time in years. I have dropped more than 20 pounds and to me,
this is a miracle drug. I know I have a long way to go, but I want to
get off the actos and all the other drugs I have been prescribed to
treat my T2. I hate the nausea and the heartburn, but I am willing to
suffer thru those side-effects for the greater good. I have never felt
control over my eating until I started this routine and I am in a
state of disbelief… At some point the other shoe has gotta drop, right?

Giving Advice ?

Wednesday, September 21st, 2005

Hi All~

I have a question. We had friends over for dinner last night
and my girlfreinds husband has type 2 diabetes. He refuses to
take prescription meds he thinks he has control with using herbs
and cinnamon. My friend says he doesn’t eat right because he
will not eat through out the day and then just eats huge quanities of
food for dinner. He says he would rather die then have to inject
himself with any medication. I of course keep singing the praises of
Byetta telling him he needs to go to an Endo. And all my concerns were
confirmed when after dinner I tested my bs, it was 79, Yah! lowest
number I have seen yet. So my friend urged me to have her hubby test
so he said he would (I put my meter on "control test" so it would not
mess up my average) but here is the kicker…His bs was 506 and he says
its always high like that. So what kind of advice can you give someone

Got some news today…

Tuesday, September 20th, 2005

My sister calls me today, asking exactly what needles are used for Byetta.
She’s a pharmacy tech, but she has never dispensed it before. I ask her why,
and she says she can’t tell me. No biggie, so I go get my box and read it off
for her and get back to watching my movie. A few hours later, while I was at
work, I checked my phone and was my mom, sounding a bit off, telling me that my
sister called me because the Byetta is for her. She says that her bloodwork
came back, her sugar was in high/normal and her triglycerides were high and the
Byetta is what the doc wants her to try. I talked to her right away, and she
sounded much better than on her voice mail, and we discussed it. The doc wants
to put my step-dad on Byetta for the same reasons as my mom. He goes in next
week to discuss it with the doc.
My mom’s biggest concern is the fact that she has to take a shot. She has never
been easy with me taking shots. I was still living at home when I was diagnosed
and she didn’t even want to see the evidence of my injections, let alone see me
give myself one. So, tonight I went over there, showed her the needle, which
