Fwd: [Diabetes_And_Byetta] Re: Lipitor Question & My Info
Aylne,
My cardio doctor wants my total under 100. He told me that diabetics
should have a lower number than the recommended number for non
diabetics. Also, I do not know really anything about the relationship
of the numbers and their totals. I was told by someone that it is
really not as simple as one is 96 and one 98. Having one as high as 98
might not be as good as it sounds. I think this is where we definitely
have to trust the ones that keep us healthy.

I think it would be very difficult to have a total
under 100. My doctor originally said they wanted LDL
under 100. Then the recommendation changed to LDL
under 70 for diabetics. Since it is generally
recommended that HDL (the good stuff) be at least 50,
you would have to have an LDL of under 50 to reach a
total of under 100.
I think also that the recommendation for diabetics is
based on the fact that most diabetics are not well
controlled. Most do not have the BG of normal people.
Until recently, I did. Now I don’t, which is why I am
trying Byetta.
My doctor and I work as a team. I very much trust
her. However, I do alot of reading myself and don’t
always come to the same conclusion as she does. She
is always willing to discuss it with me and read the
articles that I bring her. I would never blindly
follow anything anyone told me — my doctor, rabbi,
husband, anyone. I will always give them great
respect but I want to be part of the decision.

Alyne,
Sorry, I meant the LDL. My doctor wants my LDL under 100, I believe
he said 70. Open minded doctors are blessing to have. I know because
I have one too.
