Weird time table…
So, I am on Elavil (amitriptyline) for neuropathy in my feet. The original
purpose of this medication was for depression caused by insomnia, so one of the
effects of this pill is sleepiness. It seems that if I take the pill around 6
or 7 pm, I’m ready for bed within an hour or so, but if I take it later, it
takes forever to take effect and I then have a harder time getting up in the
morning. Because I work till 9 during the week, I don’t have a chance to take
the pill till 9:30 or 10:00. So, has anyone else experienced something like
this with any medication that causes drowsiness? I’m extremely frustrated with
it right now… going on almost 4 hours since I took the pill and am WIDE
awake….

Hello,
I am new around here and to Byetta. Just started last Thursday at
dinner and already have lost almost 10 lbs.
I don’t have diabetes but was prescribed this by my Endo to see if it
wouldn’t help with weight loss. He also put me on an Insulin
Sensitizing Diet which is basically blah and no food, but that’s fine
b/c the Byetta makes me not hungry.
Anyway, yesterday I gave myself my morning shot (half asleep still)
and afterwards noticed there was something in the liquid of the pen.
It looked like a bug. So, I called the pharmacist and he told me to
bring it in and he’d exchange it. So I did. He was so stunned b/c
he said it sure did look like a bug! He has no idea what it is but
was really floored by it.
He called the drug company and not only will they be studying it to
figure out what the heck it is, they’ll be calling me. Wonder if
there will be a recall or something?
The company was asking the pharmacist if I was freaking out or
anything……which I wasn’t, but I told him if I keel over, my
husband could freak. LOL
BTW, the object in the pen wasn’t there all along. I had been checking.
Make sure you check everytime.
I’ll let y’all know what comes of all of this.

Trish, have you noticed any improvement in the neuropathy since starting the
Elavil? How long have you been on it? Lanie

OMG, it works awesome for me. Now, my neuropathy is not typical. It does not
cause any pain and I don’t feel burning or tingling, nstead I just feel too much
and it keeps me awake at night. I had to start at the smallest available dose
and work my way up to what works, which is 50mg. The reason to work up in
dosage is because elavil can cause dizziness and light-headedness, which it did
for me. I had to give the majority of my classes sitting down for almost a
month in the process of working up to my dosage. I’ve tried a few times to stop
taking it, and I do ok for a few weeks, then I start feeling things again, so I
start back up. But, I do love it.
