bg testing and Byetta timing questions
My Endo told me I only needed to test twice a day once in the morning—
I have been testing after I’ve gotten up and ready for work etc, but
still before I have eaten anything…Is that OK? Or should I be
testing the minute I wake up before I do all the other stuff? Does it
really matter? And the second time I am to test is one hour after a
larger meal which usually would be dinner, sometimes lunch.
I am just curious if any one has ever tried taking their evening Byetta
shot before bed? Wonder if taking it later would help with morning
numbers. It just seems kind of a waste when I am nauseated to take the
Byetta with saltines for dinner. But not knowing exactly how the
Byetta is working or reacting if that would even be plausible?

Andrew, I agree with this. If my test results before meals is 100, and
200 after a bagel…. well… now I know, don’t I? LOL

Tami, I typically test 3-4 times a day, more so in the morning as soon
as I wake up. I test either just before meals, or two hours after. I
have read somewhere, though, (probably on the ‘net<s>) that 1 hr after
meals may be better.

Tami,
One of the functions of Byetta is to slow down the digestion of a
meal so that the body does not get a big slug of glucose all at
once. It works for about 3 hours. There would be no point in
taking it at bedtime unless you eat your dinner just before
bedtime. Go with it as the directions say. It takes time.

Since Byetta slows digestion, should we be testing a
longer time after a meal? I’ve been testing at 1.5
hours after starting to eat(as recommended by David
Mendosa, I believe). I wonder if on Byetta this will
still show the peak. Also, I wonder how soon after
eating we should expect our BG to be the same as we
were before eating?

Alyne, I find my bg is higher 2 hrs after eating lunch. That’s when the
byetta seems to wane.
