Diabetes & Byetta

I’m going to ask my doc on Monday if he will let me try Byetta. He’s
always very willing to work with me so I don’t anticipate any
hesitation on his part. Right now I am taking a combination pill
called Actoplus Met that contains Actos and Metformin in one pill. I
take the 15/500’s twice a day which means I am getting 30 mg Actos and
1000 mg Metformin a day. If I start Byetta, will that conflict with
the Actos/Metformin? Will I have to stop taking it or cut back? What
is your experience?

Don’t reply by saying to just trust the doc. I like to educate myself
as much as I can beforehand cause docs have to deal with alot of stuff
and alot of times we know as much or more about diabetes as they do.

not more than an hour ago, i was posting about glucophage and wham! bg went
to 42.

was 70ish at 6 am. ate a higher carb bf due to being sort of low. took
insulin and spit as normal about 8 am.

tonight, i was 156 at 5 pm cause i had been out running errands and had
shared an ice cream with the baby at 5. i took spit at 6 pm and had dinner
but i can’t recall what i ate. took bg at 8:15 pm and was 160 so spit worked
ok. by 9ish, i was 42.

called my son who lives 3 blocks from me and he called 911. he came with an
ambulance within minutes (he’s an emt in school to become a paramedic). he
started me on an IV of d 50 cause i was so low. pulse high at 112 bp was ok.
i had taken 1 glucose tab before he got here but it wasn’t working fast

4:30pm 191 BG (It was at least under 200)
..came to find out he felt dizzy and ate 2 reg. cookies (Many years ago he
pasted out with sugar too low and is petrified it will happen again)..I am
really not worried about that…times I have checked his BG and it is 130 and he
said he felt dizzy or low…he’s just not used to an almost normal BG anymore -
is that possible???? But I am NOT in his shoes and do NOT know how it
feels…its hard to understand when you haven’t been there or done that.

5pm - Byetta

5:15pm Antipasto salad (Meat , cheese, peppers, cauliflower, olives, olive oil &
vinegar) 2-3 fork fulls…not hunger but had to try some…looked good

I’m trying to see what are good things and bad things for Frank to eat so I’m
pushing the BG testing

The prices of test strips is OUTRAGEOUS. I just picked up 100 strips at the
pharmacy…$98 with tax…silly me I usually check eBay for everything..I never
thought to look for test strips…look what I found:

$40 ….That’s less then HALF what I paid !!!!!

The need never came up to ask…but why is Byetta taken before meals instead of
after? or might the better question be..if forgotten can the byetta be taken
after eating ? If no..why not?
(I do know if taken before it decreases appetite.)
If taken after …. won’t it still have an anti-spike, BG lowering effect ????
