New Byetta User

Saturday, June 18th, 2005

I’ve been (mostly) a lurker on this list for a few
months. I joined because I wanted to know more about
Byetta before I started using it. I have a doctor’s
appointment on Friday and she will probably give me a
prescription. What is the thinnest needle I can ask
her to prescribe? Also, I understand that there has to
be a mimimal amount of carbs ingested in order for the
Byetta to work. How much would this be per meal. I
usually just eat a piece of cheese for breakfast and
assume that would not be enough.

Thanks for your help and I look forward to joining the
ranks of happy Byetta users.

Fwd: [Diabetes_And_Byetta] Disappointed……

Paris,

I think you should be excited that your blood glucose levels have
dropped. It may not be the perfect number, but you are on your way
there. It is always easier said then done. As for exercising, do
what you can do. Something is better than nothing. Remember rome
wasn’t built in a day. If the ranges drop any further, we will all be
walking around with shakes and tremors. lol I get the shakes when my
is 70.

My doctor checkup today–good news!

Sunday, June 12th, 2005

Today I went to the doctor for my diabetes checkup. The nurse weighed me
and I have lost 42 pounds since January. At my last checkup, my A1C test was
7.3 and this time it was 5.0!!!!!! Byetta really works! The doctor was
really pleased and he said he thinks getting diabetes was the best thing that’s
happened to me in a long time because my health has improved a lot as a result.
Even my breathing tests at the lung doctor improved. When I told the
doctor that I reuse my needles, he covered his ears with his hands and said,
"Don’t tell me that!" I asked what could happen to me from doing it. He just
shook his head and smiled. So, apparently, nothing bad can happen. Well, just
wanted to share the good news. Janet

fish oil

Sunday, June 12th, 2005

An Australian study has determined that daily doses of
fish oil containing omega-3 fats can, when combined
with exercise, act as an aid to weight loss.

The study examined 68 overweight and obese people over
a period of three months. They were divided into four
groups: one that took fish oil but did no exercise,
one that exercised (45-minute walks or running three
days a week) but took no fish oil, one given both, and
one given neither.

Those who both took fish oil and exercised lost an
average of 4.5 pounds over the course of the study,
even though they were given no dietary restrictions.
None of the other groups lost any weight at all. The

Can’t find the post

Sunday, June 12th, 2005

After a bit of diligent searching on the Messages pages, I am forced
to post this in the hopes that the original "poster" will see it. I
remember reading a post recently where someone talked about the weight
loss plateau and starting a B-vitamin complex. Could someone direct
me to that post?

Newbie Questions

Friday, June 10th, 2005

I am fairly new to the list and have mostly just readly the posts
lately. I recently started my Byetta and have been really pleased with
the results. I have had no negative side effects thus far, and my BS
have improved greatly. I don’t have that almost constant craving to
eat like I used to and the spikes have leveled off. My lantus is down
by 10 units all ready and I hope to get off it completly in time along
with my 3 oral meds. I have to travel a few times by airlines in the
near future and would appreciate any tips for security checks and
temperature control of the byetta. Thanks
Jim

Day 3 and lots of nausea

Thursday, June 9th, 2005

Hi All~

I started taking my Byetta 10mg on Tuesday night. I only experienced
nausea during the evening the last couple nights but was nausiated most
the day today. Agghhhh So does it get worse before it gets better?
I’m trying not to complain or think about it to much though.
Funny thing the other night we went out for dinner to our favorite
Chinese resturant…I could hardly eat any of my dinner because I was
so full so fast!

medicare coverage for strips?

Thursday, June 9th, 2005

Sometime ago I read, but cannot locate, information on exact wording to get
okayed for more than 4 strips per day testing for Medicare insured persons. Can
anyone recall what the wording needs to be?

I am having lots of lows and don’t recognize them, so have to test often.
Prior insurance covered 12 strips a day with no problems, medicare allows me
only
4.

I am on Byetta 10 mcg, not having highs for the most part now, a.m. fasting
numbers between 70-100, not on Lantus currently. Latest A1c 5.4.

My endo and I have discussed dropping to 5 mcg Byetta, but I am reluctant to
do that just yet.
