how long?

Once you started on Byetta, how long before you started to see a big change in
your glucose numbers. I have beenr eading that some people go so low as to have
low sugar attacks and I can’t imagine that happening to me at this point. I am
seeing a little reduction in my morning fasting numbers which is nice as this
has always been the hardest number to get to budge for me. During the day I am
eating very little of anything due to the nausea and yet my sugar numbers aren’t
really coming down but a few points. I’ve been on 5 mg. of Byetta since this
past Saturday. Maybe I need more time?

Incidentally, this nausea is a killer! On top of that I have been having major
allergies all week and severe menstrual cramps and I feel like a zombie. At
this point it’s really hard to tell how the Byetta is making me feel because I
just feel yucky overall. I’m confidant the nausea is all Byetta driven though
and let me tell you, it’s already getting old!!

Thanks for the info,
Garland

My between meal appetite has decreased as well. In fact, if I didn’t have to
prepare meals for my family, I would probably not even eat half the time. I
just don’t have any appetite. Tonight I had a hamburger and about 1/2 dozen
brussel sprouts and I am so full I feel like I just ate Thanksgiving dinner. I
am definitely seeing a change in appetite overall. I’m also seeing a change in
my weight — yay! Of course if you don’t eat much, you will lose weight right?

I will try eating closer to shot time than I have been. I usually do the shot
then prepare the meal so go maybe 45 minutes or so before eating. Maybe doing
    it more closely will help.

    Thanks,

Also, if you go to a health food store or well stocked grocery store, they
have candied ginger slices. Those are really good to nibble or to make a
tea. Ginger Snaps are also a good way to take ginger if the tea just
doesn’t seem to want to go down. If you are eating little, the carbs in
these two things shouldn’t be a problem. Also peppermint is good for a
nauseous tummy. I buy the hard stick peppermint candy at cracker barrel
every time we go. Usually a 1/2 stick will take the nausea away. You can
also use these sticks as "stirrers" in tea and as they melt you get the
benefits of the tea. Celestial Seasonings has a peppermint tea which never
fails to relieve my hubby’s nausea. Just remember that fluids are
important. If you get dehydrated, one of the side effects is nausea and
vomiting. If you start vomiting and can’t get it stopped, the best course
is to go to the ER. They can give you an IV to help get you hydrated again.
Also, If you nausea becomes too bad, talk to your dr. about giving you a
prescription for Phenergan. It zonks me, but sometimes, I would rather be

zonked then the nausea. Hope this helps.

For the severe menstrual cramps - try using a cinnamon stick in hot water -
does wonders - and also helps to lower you BG. I know MANY who swear by it!

The nausea I can’t help with - not on Byetta as it isn’t available in Canada
yet :( Try ginger tea maybe?

The longer I wait to eat after taking the spit, the more nauseous I become.
I think it varies from person to person though.

    Garland,

I started taking Byetta 5 on Tuesday. I haven’t had
much, if any, nausea. How soon after taking Byetta do
you eat? I eat within 15-30 minutes after taking it,
and so far, so good. I’ve been wondering if the
timing has anything to do with it.

Are you testing your blood sugar during the day when
you feel really yucky, to make sure that you aren’t
hypoglycemic? This is something that others on here
have mentioned (feeling yucky & not realizing they

    were hypo).

I haven’t really seen much of a decrease in my morning
number, either. At least, not yet. I’m trying to be
patient. However, I do feel that my between meal
appetite has definitely decreased, and I am happy
    about that.

Now, maybe this is just my imagination…..BUT>….lol….

I have had pneumonia. I haven’t taken my byetta shot for almost 3 weeks,
because I didn’t want to deal with coughing and nausea at the same time. My
appetite has still be down. I thought at first that it was just being sick,
but tonight we went out to eat, and I was starving before hand….I ordered
Meatloaf, Mashed potatoes and turnip greens. When we were finished, I was
stuffed! Like if I had ate twice the food I ate. And I still feel stuffed
3 hours later. Do you think it could still be the byetta? Or is it just
I’ve not eaten much lately? Btw…we are going on vacation on
Saturday…(Yeah!) and I am planning to go back on the byetta while I’m
gone. I’m going to take the worthless pak I got from byetta and the thermos
and baggies. Does anyone have any other vacation tips for the byetta?
