Staying at 5 mg

Hi,
Has anyone stayed on the 5 longer than a month or indefinitely? I
have been having a lot of nausea with the 10 dose. I did a month on
the two 5’s and am now three weeks into the 10. I’ve only been taking
one shot since I’m so gun shy of feeling so bad after taking the shot.
I use the sea bands and have every ginger product out there and those
work. I’m trying to pay attention to foods that work and don’t work
and have just realized that low bg might be what I’m experiencing
rather than nausea from the shot. Since my body is so used to high
bg’s, I feel really bad any time I’m under 100. I went down to my
lowest ever, 69, a couple of nights ago. I have only lost about 5
pounds, but my numbers are low for me…129 this morning and 136
average. Right now, I’m taking one 10 shot and one-half of my 45 mg
Actos med each day. Should I keep trying the 10 and try to get to the
point where I can take two shots a day or should I go back to the 5’s

for a while? Thanks. Kathy

Kathy, I moved back to the 5 after experiencing hypos on the 10. I am on
byetta alone with no other diabetic meds.

In a teleconference, Dr. Bernstein reported that he
keeps his patients on the 5mg dose as long as it is
working. His concern is that over time some tolerance
to the lizard spit may cause it not to work as well
and he wants to save the 10mg dose for that time. I
jsut started Byetta a couple of days ago. I hope I
can stay on the 5mg a long time.

Hi, Alyne. Not everyone moves up to the 10. Keep good testing notes so
your doctor knows how you respond to the 5mcg dose. That helps when it
comes down to making decision about increasing the dose.
