how long?

Thursday, June 30th, 2005

Once you started on Byetta, how long before you started to see a big change in
your glucose numbers. I have beenr eading that some people go so low as to have
low sugar attacks and I can’t imagine that happening to me at this point. I am
seeing a little reduction in my morning fasting numbers which is nice as this
has always been the hardest number to get to budge for me. During the day I am
eating very little of anything due to the nausea and yet my sugar numbers aren’t
really coming down but a few points. I’ve been on 5 mg. of Byetta since this
past Saturday. Maybe I need more time?

Incidentally, this nausea is a killer! On top of that I have been having major
allergies all week and severe menstrual cramps and I feel like a zombie. At
this point it’s really hard to tell how the Byetta is making me feel because I
just feel yucky overall. I’m confidant the nausea is all Byetta driven though
and let me tell you, it’s already getting old!!

Would You Advise Me To Try Byetta?

Monday, June 27th, 2005

It’s been out there for over a year! I’ve been using Insulin
for over 10 years but use very small amounts but my doctor
feels it might work for me to help with weight loss. My last
A1C was 8.0. I’ve been diabetic for 20 years. My husband has
just retired and our only real enjoyment is going out to eat
and we don’t have a lot of choices as we live in a rural area.
Please give me some pros and cons. Thanks.

Jodi, have you gained weight from lantus before byetta?
I gained about 15lbs by just taking lantus last year. Since I have
been on lantus and byetta, I have not gained weight.

Staying at 5 mg

Wednesday, June 22nd, 2005

Hi,
Has anyone stayed on the 5 longer than a month or indefinitely? I
have been having a lot of nausea with the 10 dose. I did a month on
the two 5’s and am now three weeks into the 10. I’ve only been taking
one shot since I’m so gun shy of feeling so bad after taking the shot.
I use the sea bands and have every ginger product out there and those
work. I’m trying to pay attention to foods that work and don’t work
and have just realized that low bg might be what I’m experiencing
rather than nausea from the shot. Since my body is so used to high
bg’s, I feel really bad any time I’m under 100. I went down to my
lowest ever, 69, a couple of nights ago. I have only lost about 5
pounds, but my numbers are low for me…129 this morning and 136
average. Right now, I’m taking one 10 shot and one-half of my 45 mg
Actos med each day. Should I keep trying the 10 and try to get to the
point where I can take two shots a day or should I go back to the 5’s

Info for newbie

Wednesday, June 22nd, 2005

Hello,
I am new to diabetes (I was diagnosed in May) and my doctor wants me
to get informed about Byetta. I am currently taking Glucophage with
Starlix and have lost a little weight. When the Starlix was added, my
sugars dropped dramatically. I am wondering what the Byetta does that
is so different from Starlix. Any info would be appreciated!

5 mg for one month

Tuesday, June 21st, 2005

Hi,
New to the group. My name is Alice. I was diagnosed with gestational
diabetes 5/2000 after my son was born I was fine for a few months and then in
May 2001 I started back on glucophage…1500 mg. About a year ago I began
Advandia 4 mg. A month ago my Endo took me off Advandia and put me on Byetta 5
mg. I was to begin my 10 pen today but it is out of stock and wont be in until
around 2:00 this afternoon.

Was wondering should I wait till tomorrow and just miss this whole day or do
you think it will hurt to take my first 10mg tonight with dinner?

As for weightloss, I started out weighing 197 and this am I weighed 194.5…I
don’t think that’s much to talk about and I watched so carefully. I am hoping
with the 10 to see more of a change. It is one specific reason my Endo put me
on it. That and my BS levels have been so much better in the am. So

The current ADA guideline is as follows:

"The^ A1C goal for the individual patient is an A1C as close to
normal (<6%) as possible without significant hypoglycemia."

A 5 would be high normal, note the "less then" sign preceding the 6,
the goal is as far below 6 as possible. A daily average with all
the ups and downs of bg for an a1c
of 6 is 136 and for 5 100. The days when everyone smiled with a 7
are no more.

Nausea problems and cure

Saturday, June 18th, 2005

I have been taking Byetta almost 2 weeks now and recently developed
stomach problems.A friend suggested trying herbal ginger tea, and it
worked! I cut the coffee to 1 cup a day and frequently sip the tea
during the day. I was very pleased that it worked. It is worth a try.
Also I am havig a lot of low BS at different times during the day any
hints would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Jim
