Fwd: [Diabetes_And_Byetta] Should I be concerned?

Sunday, May 22nd, 2005

Hi Tami,

How do you know what your numbers are if you do not test? It sounds
like you have insurance. I would call my endo and see if they have a
meter for you or give you a prescription to get one. If you have a
mail away program, I would call them. I know that medco had sent me a
slip asking if I would change to 1 touch ultra because it was more cost
effective for them. They were giving me the meter. When you get the
prescription for the meter don’t forget to get a prescription for the
test strips and the lancets.

Good luck with the byetta!

Should I be concerned?

Thursday, May 19th, 2005

Hi All-

I am receiving my 1st 3 month supply of Byetta tomorrow morning. My A1C
a couple weeks ago was 7.0 with an average reading of 141. I was taking
Metformin 850mg 3 x a day. And I have not been very careful about how I
eat. So my numbers are not great but not horrible either. Is the
Byetta going to make a huge differnce in the numbers? Should I be
concerned that it’s going to be to low? I have never had to monitor my
BS and I don’t even have a monitor to do so. And my Endo is putting me
straight to the 10 pen - that’s got me a litlle worried too since most
of you make it sound like you started with the 5 and moved up to the 10.
I don’t go back to the Endo for 4 weeks either. Of course I will call
if I have problems though. I just don’t know what to expect and I’m
being a worry wort!

Independent Avon Sales Rep

Has anyone experienced this?

Monday, May 16th, 2005

I’m on vacation at my mother’s place. and my average FBS has dropped
fifty points. It was in the forties and fifties for four days, until
I lowered my Lantus dosage by six units. I’m trying to figure out if
job stress is contributing to my diabetes, or if I’m having bad
reactions to my home or workplace. Any similar experiences?

Marsha and Jessica have met!

Sunday, May 15th, 2005

After all the verbal sparring, finally, we got down to it.

The Scarlet Wombat filled a vat with melted Lindt 70% dark chocolate,
and it began. We wrestled, we fell, we emerged. She tried to stuff
steak in my mouth, I attacked her with broccoli!

Seriously, on my trip home from NH, I met Dan and Marsha at their
lovely home. It’s obvious that great food comes out of that kitchen,
that they are a "meant to be" couple, and that they are both
interesting, brilliant people. (Plus, they were really nice to my
canine companion.)

While Marsha and I may disagree on proteins and carbs, it seems we are
both rabidly opposed to transfats and more than a forkful of junk food.

Inadequate Lancets

Saturday, May 14th, 2005

This isn’t directly Byetta-related, but perhaps someone could point
me (no pun
intended) in the right direction on which brand(s) of lancets
and/or lancing
devices produce MORE blood (and are more painful, if necessary).

I’ve been using Ascensia Microlet devices–which a couple of my
providers
dissed–and, before that, OneTouch UltraSoft.

But, while the puncture hurts little or not at all, the amount of
blood coming
out is usually only enough to produce an error message. I have to
squeeze
my finger–no good–to get enough.

Here is a link to a long and fascinating NY Times story (registration required
if you are not already registered there). It explains why folk like Annie and
me have such a dickins of a time with eating the calories others toss back with
ease without gaining weight, plus there is a great deal of information about
obesity and weight loss.

Support My Walk for Diabetes

Thursday, May 12th, 2005

Dear Friends and Family:

Recently I accepted the challenge of walking in the American Diabetes
Association’s Walk for Diabetes annual fund-raising event. I am
involved because I believe in and support the Association’s mission:
to prevent and cure diabetes and to improve the lives of all people
affected by diabetes.

You, too, can help by supporting my fund-raising efforts with a
generous contribution. Your tax-deductible gift will make a
difference to the more than 20 million American adults and children
who are affected by this disease, and another 40 million who are at
risk for developing diabetes.

Now it’s faster and easier than ever to support this great cause! You
