It has a probe attached to a cable and you put the probe in the food, and the cable allows the readout part to be put on the counter or magnetically to the door of the oven. You dont have to open the oven door to read the temp. They also have a time function for use when cooking, could probably be set to alarm for reminder to take meds too.
