What to Eat/When to take Metformin
Just started on the 5 pen yesterday. Does anyone have any ideas on the
best meals to eat and what not to eat. How many carbs a meal work
best. Do you take your Metformin before or after the injectin. I
take 500 mg of metformin in the morning and 500 in the evening.
What are the best snacks for the lizard? ANy information for a newbie
would be great.

hard to say what foods will work for you. i find it
very frustrating that the lizard and i don’t agree on
foods. for instance, i love tomatoes… the lizard
hates them. and he lets me know it in no uncertain
terms. it is just kind of a trial and error thing.
salad is also an iffy. i can’t eat much of it. i have
found that if i eat a few carbs with my byetta meal,
it helps. i find that to be hard because i have been
ultra low carbing for so long. i do ok with
strawberries, cheese, cream cheese with high fiber
wasa, and some nuts.

Hi, and welcome! I can’t speak to the meds as I’m not on any, just 5mg
byetta and humalog (rarely, when I hypercarb)<g> As to the number of
carbs, we’re all individuals. I let my meter decide how many carbs I can
handle.

Annie, it’s interesting what the spit does to our choice of foods. I
love tomatoes, and can eat them just fine. I used to like Mexican food,
_mild, please!_ With the spit, "Mexican food? Yeah! Bring on the hot
peppers!!!" I have less of an appetite for salty foods, though I found
some feta cheese at the coop that tasted just fine. <G> On the whole,
I’d say I’m eating healthier.

one difference may be that you already eat a much
higher carb diet overall than i do. so i have to
concentrate my carbs more at my byetta meals. i
generally like to limit my daily carb consumption at
less than 20. as to the salad and tomato… just a
good example of to each his own. my lizard hates it.

I’m going no mail. If, in a few months, the list actually discusses something
of importance, someone please feel free to let me know at my private email
address.
Now the vegans will be able to discuss why not to eat meat and the gourmands
will have free rein to talk about why people should eat as much as possible and
use maximum drugs to control BG and no one will raise a voice which in any way
disagrees with them because that might just be too much for others to take.
It is now time to start trading chocolate cake recipies, ladies and gents.
Good night and good luck.

Marsha….
I have just a few thoughts on your post about going no mail. Just my
opinions, my thoughts. I think that to get upset or angry (or whatever
emotion caused you to decide to go no mail) and say you are leaving is a bit
like a kid saying…If you don’t play the way I want, I’ll take my ball and
go home. Your ball being all the helpful advice that you have given to the
list. I am an adult. As such, I have been able to glean helpful
information from almost every informational post that I have seen on this
list since I’ve been here. And I will tell you that Your Posts and John D’s
are among the most informative. I have saved every post you have sent as a
response to one of my questions and many of yours that were a response to
someone else. Also, I thought it very disrespectful to ALL list members for
you to imply that we are not discussing anything of importance. Just
because there are those here who are voicing their opinions and those
opinions don’t Jive with yours….doesn’t mean it’s not important stuff. I
for one have very little time for Non Important stuff, so just the fact that
I am here and I am reading and posting shows that at least ONE person on
this list is discussing something important. I really can’t understand the
attitude. No one is sharing Chocolate Cake recipes. I know that for myself
personally that if I wanted to share a chocolate cake recipe, it wouldn’t
matter to me if you were here or not, I’d share it. So the idea that we
would do it once your gone, indicates something doesn’t it? That maybe
your upset that your opinions don’t seem to be getting enough attention?
Well, Let me assure you Marsha….I value your opinions greatly. I see that
you have a lot experience with Byetta. (Me being a relative newbie, I have
appreciated your help more than I can say.) There were times when I felt
over whelmed that I would open up your posts and read them again. I found
your ideas to inspire me to try new things and to try to figure out what
works for ME. I sense that your feelings have been hurt and for that I’m
sorry. But really, there is no reason for them to have been. So many
people here value your thoughts and opinions…and more importantly….YOUR
EXPERIENCE!!!! We’ve Lost John…Please don’t let a few thoughtless remarks
cause you to retreat. I’m hoping that for my health’s sake, and the health
of other list members that you will stay.
