Fwd: [Diabetes_And_Byetta] Should I be concerned?

Hi Tami,

How do you know what your numbers are if you do not test? It sounds
like you have insurance. I would call my endo and see if they have a
meter for you or give you a prescription to get one. If you have a
mail away program, I would call them. I know that medco had sent me a
slip asking if I would change to 1 touch ultra because it was more cost
effective for them. They were giving me the meter. When you get the
prescription for the meter don’t forget to get a prescription for the
test strips and the lancets.

Good luck with the byetta!

Dale

I only know what my numbers are from getting lab work done. It’s
always been monitered by the Dr. not by me.

I do have insurance - with Medco and I am sure they would cover the
meter and supplies (with my co-pay) - just need to call the Endo
about it. It just seems like the smart thing to do….ortherwise I
feel like I am flying by the seat of my pants!

I think someone on the list mentioned that if you call some of the
meter companies they will send you a meter free. They want you to buy
the strips. If you can wait for one to be delivered to you that may
even be a better way if medco does not give you one free or your
medical insurance sometimes provide a diabetic with a meter free as
long as you have the prescription from the doctor. You may have to
submit a bill to them or they may just pay for it with a prescription
at the pharmacy. There are ways to get a free meter. You just have
to decide which one you want.

I use freestyle flash. I test on my arm not my finger. There are
several machines that do let you test other areas other than your
fingers. It is just a matter of what you feel comfortable doing.

walgreens even has a fairly cheap meter and thier
strips are fairly inexpensive. also if you have a
freecycle in your area you may check there, i got a
meter from someone on freecycle that was brand new and
still sealed in the package. just had to buy strips
for it. also try ebay and amazon.
