Should I be concerned?

Hi All-

I am receiving my 1st 3 month supply of Byetta tomorrow morning. My A1C
a couple weeks ago was 7.0 with an average reading of 141. I was taking
Metformin 850mg 3 x a day. And I have not been very careful about how I
eat. So my numbers are not great but not horrible either. Is the
Byetta going to make a huge differnce in the numbers? Should I be
concerned that it’s going to be to low? I have never had to monitor my
BS and I don’t even have a monitor to do so. And my Endo is putting me
straight to the 10 pen - that’s got me a litlle worried too since most
of you make it sound like you started with the 5 and moved up to the 10.
I don’t go back to the Endo for 4 weeks either. Of course I will call
if I have problems though. I just don’t know what to expect and I’m
being a worry wort!

Thanks for any input!

Tami

my own personal experience was that the byetta dropped
my blood sugars from 600’s to the 100s when nothing
and i mean nothing had budged them in 15 years. i have
drastically cut my meds and have lost 52 lbs since
december. i personally have not experienced any lows.

I experienced lows on the 10 pen, without any other diabetic meds on
board. Now, I’m back on the 5 and it seems to be working fine. Readings
are a tad higher, but acceptable. I’ll post my bg when I get a chance.

    Hello again.
I am sorry to be a pest. but do not know what to think about my bg readings.
My numbers are not going down, even though I am on two injections of Byetta
    (5mg a shot)
    For instance today
    morning reading 187
breakfast (a slice of meatloaf with 1scrambled egg and a cup of tea), after
    2.5 hours reading is 227
    lunch time - 211

Every day is similar to this.
I think that pen delivers medication fine, because I feel (very briefly)
coolness of injected material, I an nauseating, my stomach is rumbling.
So I have all indication of Byetta present in my body, but readings do not
    support this idea.

Am I doing something wrong? Should I be concerned, or should I wait for the
whole month of taking Byetta and than draw conclusions?
How soon after starting Byetta did you see improvements in your bg? Would you
    mind to share, please?
    Thank you,
    Warm regards, Ellen.

I didn’t see improvement until I started the 10 mg. give it some time you will
    be pleasantly surprised.
