Inadequate Lancets
This isn’t directly Byetta-related, but perhaps someone could point
me (no pun
intended) in the right direction on which brand(s) of lancets
and/or lancing
devices produce MORE blood (and are more painful, if necessary).
I’ve been using Ascensia Microlet devices–which a couple of my
providers
dissed–and, before that, OneTouch UltraSoft.
But, while the puncture hurts little or not at all, the amount of
blood coming
out is usually only enough to produce an error message. I have to
squeeze
my finger–no good–to get enough.
Anyone else have this kind of problem? Any suggestions on a better
brand?
Many thanks,
Brian

I use TrueTrack lancets. My insurance doesn’t cover them, but they are less
expensive than most other lancets. Also, I like TrueTrack’s lancing device.
It’s smaller and gives a better "punch". I go a long time between lancet
changes, so I don’t care about the little extra expense.

I’ve been using Ascensia Microlet devices

I also use the Ascencia Microlet and I set it on the deepest setting. Then
I use the tips of my little fingers most often, and sometimes the tips of my
other fingers. If I don’t use the tips of my fingers, I often have to prick
myself 2 or 3 times to get enough blood. But the fingertips pour blood
easily usually. And the little fingers seem to bleed the most easily. Janet

Actually, I didn’t write
"I’ve been using Ascensia Microlet devices"
************************************
The person before you wrote it. I should have erased off your name or quoted
directly from the original post. Sorry. Janet

Brian, I use the Soft Touch lancet device. It has a dial, so you can
choose which level of lancing (is that a word? <g>) you want. I keep it
at 1 for my little pinkies, and 2 for my more robust digits.
Hope this helps.

I find I get best results from using my little finger. Its a gusher!

Thank y’all for your suggestions, which I’ll be trying out in some
cases. And
yes, I have had the puncture-depth setting at the maximum point.
Not to make light of a serious subject, but can hemophiliacs with
diabetes
test their blood without hemorrhaging? Sort of the opposite of my
problem…

if you are using fingertip testing, i reccomend the BD
ultrafine lancets. they are green in color(best way i
know to tell you to find them) they are super fine and
for some reason seem to get blood a lot better than
the thicker ones. i have my theories as to why, but
that is another subject. i have difficulty getting
blood from my fingers with the thicker ones, but these
always do it for me
