John,

I wish you the best in whatever you decide to do. I want you to know
that your wisdom and experience with diabetes has given a lot to me.
You will be missed by me and I do appreciate that open invitation to
email you privately if ever needed. Good Luck and God Bless!

Thanks for the Byetta Tips

Monday, April 18th, 2005

Wow! There was a lot of information in that welcome message.
Thank you so much for being so precise and informative.
Any time a person is ‘new’ at something there is a sense of being unsure or
second guessing
ones self. But you answered my questions and offered some excellent tips.
Thank you

A final message from John Dodson

I want to say thanks to all of you and let you know how much I have enjoyed
the time we have spent getting to know one another and sharing the adventure of
learning more about Byetta and its effect on our lives. It has been
remarkable. I have been help in some very important ways by members of this
list. And I
appreciate you all so much.

After 14 months on Byetta and some 90 lb. lighter it is time for me to say
good-bye. I am starting back to more full time at my work, I am a Capital Fund
Developer for churches and non-profits in Northern California and Nevada. I
have been retired for 6 years from my former occupation and I love having some
extra time. Thanks to all of you who responded to my needs at various times. To
those who extended comfort and understanding when my wife was killed in a car
accident. To those who helped my fighting the yo-yo effect, especially Marsha
I am grateful. And I have enjoyed following the dialogue between various ones,

A lot of people say that this pack does not work. I use it when I go
out to dinner all the time. I keep my pouch in the fridge all the
time. I keep the cooling packs in the byetta pack. I use it when I go
out to dinner. Has anyone asked the company why they would send out a
pack that does not work? I think this pack is only suppose to be used
to keep byetta for up to 3 hours. It is not designed to be a long time
cooling pack.

homeopathy, was ‘Nausea and Vinager’

Sunday, April 17th, 2005

I too will not continue in this thread, the below appended at the end is
commonly accepted among those true believers but can not be substantiated
independently. There have been some attempts to use science to support the
claims, which is standard in normal medicine, but with little success.
Here is a summary of one study of some of those few attempts with a link to
learn more, in short homeopathy claims work in the same way as the effects
when a sugar pill is given,ie. the placebo effect:

"The meta-analysis of findings from 110 homeopathy trials and 110 matched
conventional-medicine trials found that the benefits claimed by homeopathy
can be explained by placebo effect, according to results reported in the
Aug. 27 issue of The Lancet."

"I will not enter into a public debate on this list about the law of
similars and the value of homeopathy except to note, that it saves lives

Hi Y’all!
Just been catching up on the posts, and see where several of you have received
a Byetta welcome kit. I mentioned to my husband that I have not received one,
and he said he’s heard of them: they come with a letter from "The Lizard",
unless he is busy, in which case you get a call from the Geico Gekko.

Is he whack or what?
Thought you might get a chuckle out of his lizard juice humor.

Nausea and Vinager

Kat, the principle behind vinegar helping with acid reflux is called the
"law of similars." It is the basis for homeopathy and was known even in
ancient Greece. It does seem counterintuitive, but very often, vinegar
will help an acid stomach."

That truth claim about that tradition has no basis in science and can not
be independently demonstrated as a "law" or any thing else. Vinegar, also
an acid source, doesn’t negate stomach acid, if it works it is because it
speeds up the normal shut down of acid production when acidity reaches a
given level with counter balancing hormones.

Well, the wait is finally over! I went to my Endo this past Thursday
and the blood work came back — BG, 88, A1c - 5.5, Total Cholesterol
146, HDL/LDL/Triglycerides all in normal ranges and total weight loss,
29 pounds! I’ve been backed off to the 5 mcg pen and my oral meds
have been slashed back to 1/4 of my original dosage. YeeHa!!! I am
ecstatic!! One of her patients has gone off meds altogether. I’m
seeing that light at the end of the tunnel. Still need to lose about3
or 40 pounds but I’m on my way! I haven’t felt this much in control
in years!

Oh, BTW, I was put on the trail of a free medical clinic in town that
will accept unused medications. Haven’t contacted them yet but my 10
mcg pen may have a home yet.

Old Age - A True Story

Saturday, April 9th, 2005

When my grandmother was 90, she was diagnosed with colon cancer. They
said they wouldn’t operate because she was too old. She said she
thought they were wrong, and went back to work. Wrong about the
diagnosis, she was glad they wouldn’t operate.

At that time, they also told her that her blood pressure was a little
high, and she should cut back on salt. She ignored them.

At 98, my grandmother broke her hip. They replaced her hip, and she
ended up in a wheelchair. She kept complaining that they had botched
the surgery. She made us get her a computer and teach her email. She
kept emailing doctors, lawyers, medical boards, and finally they
decided that she was right, something in surgery had gone wrong. The
re-did the surgery, and 6 months later, she danced at a bar mitzvah.
