I sent you a note — I’m coming up THIS week — leaving tomorrow.

Last night I had to go to a viewing, today a funeral. For the father
of a friend. My next door neighbor died suddenly on Sunday, and we in
the neighborhood spent too much time working with the cops to save her
dog, who was locked in the house, and then yesterday, the kindest
person I work with — her mother needed emergency surgery, she threw a
clot on the table, she stroked — she went brain dead. And he husband
and daughter don’t understand that "brain dead" is not "coma" and she
cannot wake up.

So — finally the dog is with a new home, I stopped by the hospital
after the viewing.

I am FINE — except very stressed and very tired. It was a relief to
see that "four things" poll.

I meant to call again. I’m sorry I caused you concern. It has been sad
here.

I will call you tonight. I PROMISE. I didn’t realize I didn’t send
over my phone number, or that it didn’t show on your caller ID (which
I assume everyone has, but I could be wrong.)

But three deaths in a few days — they always come in 3’s.
