Another Newbie!

Hi All~

I have enjoyed reading your posts the last few days…My name is Tami, I am 40
yrs. old. I am not sure when I became an official Type 2. I was diagnosed in
1986 with PCOS(Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome), I was put on Metformin in 1998 when
research revealed PCOS women were insulin resistant. I never had to test blood
sugars at all. And at that point I was only on high blood pressure med. In
1999 I had a complete hysterectomy & I went to an Endo for the first time. At
that time it seems my A1C’s were not great and so I was put on higher doses of
Met and on cholesterol med too. My weight is basically uncontrolled, I need to
lose 110 lbs., but would be happy to be able to lose any and keep it off. I’m
not great with low carb-low fat but I am trying to make better choices! I had
not been to my Endo for 5 years and went back to him last week. He told me
about Byetta and wants me to try it. I have mailed in all my prescriptions and
am waiting to receive them. It seems

most of you that I have read about started out with a 5mcg dose and then moved
up to the 10 dose. My Endo is starting me out right on the 10 dose. I am a
little worried about this. And I still have never been told I need to test my
BS. The Endo said we would see what the Byetta did in a month and go from
there. My A1C last week was 7.0, not bad, but not great.

I am curious if any of you taking Metforim and have the lovely side effect of
diarrhea, does the Byetta help counter act that with the slowing of the stomach
emptying? That would be worth the nausea I think. lol

Is there anyone else here that has PCOS or is menopausal? Just curious to
know of your journeys.

Lizard juice huh? lol

Hi Tami, My name is Susan. I have pcos also. Didn’t know it for years. I have
been diabetic for about 8 years. Just started on insulin and byetta. My a1c was
    12. I weighed 317 when my doc sent me to diabetic spec. I am now 281. I just
can’t seem to lose that next pound. I just started my period and that might be
    why.
I started using a website called Fitday.com. I am able to track my carbs and
calories. It is great. My blood sugars have really stabilized. I am now in the
100-150 range in the mornings. I have a lot more energy. I even worked in the
yard the other day. I have completely come off 1med. I have cut out 1 dose of
metformin a day and I have lowered my insulin dosage. Hang in there. It is
    possible to get better.

    Hi Tami…Welcome!

I also have PCOS and I have been on the spit since July 3. In that time
I’ve lost 8lbs, and I am thrilled. Or was until I started the 10 pen. I
think It might be too strong for me. Or maybe I’m just going through the
"getting used to the side effects" period. It seems that byetta would be
completely contraindicated for those of us with PCOS and Insulin resistance
because it makes the body produce more Insulin….However, because of the
slowing of the stomach emptying, plus the Metformin making the insulin
receptors more sensitive, it’s a good choice. Again…Welcome to the group.
