Travelling

I just got back and should report that in two airports, one a "high
security risk" I had less problem getting my meds (including the
thermos) through TSA security than I did my laptop computer.

The Ice in the Stainless Thermos worked really well if I replaced ice
from 4-6 hrs (in 90 F heat)… I used a cut-down toothbrush case, a
small piece of bubble wrap and a zip-lock bag to keep the ice off the
pen and the water out of the pen.

I still probably hit close to 6-8 hours of "room temperature" time
with the pen (part of the reason is below), but it’s still working
regardless so there is some room for slop if you do your best to avoid
letting the pen get warm.

This is long, but important if you travel:

One interesting issue that really wanted to make me post is the "Micro
Fridge" brand (and probably others) issue that many (including Comfort
Suites) use for in-room refrigerators….

I got in late and when using my little 99 cent therometer to set the
fridge temperature got it nicely to 40 degrees. I decided to check it
again about an hour later to make sure we were still good. The fridge
read 60 F! I couldn’t get the compressor to kick in no matter what I
did with the thermostat. I decided to take a look in the back to see
if I killed a circuit breaker and to my horror noticed that these
hotel fridges defrost themselves BY SHUTTING OFF FOR 4 HRS A DAY!!
There is a timer on it that needs a special tool to set!

Needless to say, I strongly recommend when travelling to keep you pen
on ice in the thermos even in the hotel fridge. It will still keep
the ice for days…even being off for 3-4 hours… but I still, every
evening, topped off the ice in the thermos and it was good for the
entire two weeks of my school trip/vacation in 90F plus weather.

Fred, thank you so much for the information on the hotel fridge. I
wouldn’t have thought of it defrosting in such a way. And glad the
    thermos worked well for you.
