Update from Dr.’s visit today

Hi.

Well, today I had my first check up at the Dr.’s since I started byetta.
She said my blood sugars were good, and she lowered my Metformin from 500 mg
twice a day to 850 once a day. Not much of a change I know, but still it’s
lower! Also, she moved me up to the 10 pen, but I won’t be able to get it
until the 3rd of August, Cause my insurance will not pay it until then. I
had lost 5 lbs since my visit at the end of June, so I was excited about
that. Btw..Just to let y’all know..when she was writing my prescriptions
she asked me if I needed more Alcohol wipes, and I thought.well, I’m just
going to ask her. I told her that I "Knew" someone who didn’t use alcohol
wipes and injected through their clothes. She said hepatitis will live in
dried secretions for up to 3 or 4 weeks. Also, there is staph bacteria
present on your skin. Anytime you make a break in the skin, it can enter
and you can develop a staph infection. Also, there is cellulitis. Seems

like outdated Nurses AREN"T the only ones that know about good sanitary
procedures. :o). But everyone has to make their own choices and I’m not
faulting anyone for what they do.

Like I said….I was not saying that just because I do it a certain way,
doesn’t mean I think that is the way everyone should do it. There are
plenty of people who do it different and for them it works. I just think
that if I think that there is a reason to use the alcohol and fresh needles
that I not be "belittled" for doing it that way. Hey! In the in the words
of that great American Mr. Chuck Berry….."Live like you wanna live
    baby…."! Lol…..

Demetria-Beth, I wasn’t belittling you for using fresh needles and
alcohol swabs, or responding to your posts with my last message. I was
merely pointing out a study for those who might be interested. I hope I
didn’t come across that way, and apologize if I did. I love to do
research, and certainly encourage everyone here and everywhere to follow
their own path, listen and work with their docs, and do what’s best for
    them.

Now back to our regularly scheduled program. <g>
