going from the 5 pen to the 10

I will be going to the 10 pen next week. What changes can I expect, if
any?

I didn’t have any changes at all when I changed to the 10 pen. No side
    effects and no problems. Janet

Thanks for responding Janet. I hope I don’t have any problems either. I have
felt sort of bloated lately and just out of sorts. I ate alot of lettuce salad
lately. Could that be it? I never had a problem with lettuce before Byetta. Has
anyone else been bothered by bloating and lettuce?

I didn’t have a problem with bloating and lettuce, but when I first started
on Byetta I had some bloating but it didn’t last long. I just ate a little
less until it went away. Janet

Hi, Kathy. The only changes I had moving up to the 10 was feeling tired
for a week or so. But then I needed the rest. <g>

I found my taste in food to change when starting byetta. I now love
hot-spiced foods, where I didn’t before. I eat more fruit than veggies,
though I should eat more veggies, I know. So there have been some
taste-bud changes, but not something I can’t handle.

It seems to vary person to person. 5mcg byetta made
me hungrier. It helped my BG but I needed 10 mcg to
    (largely) bring it under control.

I’m the opposite of Janie. I used to like very spicy
food - now I can’t tolerate it well - and I miss it.

I no longer have muscle spasms from injecting (around
the site) - they were never severe, just uncomfortable
    and short lived.

10 mcg controls eating more than 5 mcg but it can’t
really stop me from eating - only makes me pay for it
    later.

I never got sick from either of them unless I ate too
much. I don’t vomit easily, therefore I simply felt

    Marsha,

I am so glad to here that you are hungrier as well. I have dropped a
couple of lbs., but it is probably because I was more aware of how much
I was eating. I eat fewer calories, but I still crave chocolate and ice
cream. I have 4 more refills on the 5 pen. I was wondering if the 10
    would be better?

WOW My doctor told me to go to the 10 after one month of being on the 5. Why the
    big difference? Anybody?

    Marsha,

Are you also taking oral meds? My doctor took me off the oral meds then
gave me a refill, almost makes one think, the Dr. is not sure how to
proceed. I will question him tomorrow. I only had the full feeling
maybe the first week now not as much. I also have started eating right
away, but only the past 2 days (after reading on this board that we may
need the wait time for meds to work properly (something to that affect))
have gone back to waiting 1/2 hour or more before eating.

My Ac1 panel(?) was 6.7 (i think as you can see, I really need to pay
more attention) it went a point for every 10lbs I gained back. Oy vay!

I am on 1000 mg fortamet twice a day, Millie.

I won’t get a new A1c until August. Will know more then.

I went on the 10 after 2 weeks of being on 5 because 5 was not doing enough for
    me. - Marsha

If you name a food, someone has had trouble with it. It’s a really
individual thing. I haven’t found any food yet that causes a
problem, although I am careful not to get carried away with
    quantity. Pat in ID

  13. Melvin Anh Says:

    Millie,

I’m not hungrier on 10 mcg. 5 mcg increased my appetite - one of those weird
reactions. I just took more hoodia to cut the hunger. On days when I am really
bothered by inappropriate hunger from insulin resistance I take one or sometimes
two of the 1000 mg hoodia extract capsuls from globalnutritions.com (disclaimer,
I do not make money from this site)

Craving carbs is normal for someone who is coming down off them. Heck, I still
like chocolate, I just do good low-carb chocolate. :) In small doses. The
good stuff is pretty expensive, so small amounts is all I can afford. I tend to
miss the savory carbs more than the sweet ones - hence I will long for something
crunchy and salty more than sugary sweet.

I can’t handle sugar alcohols very well - which excludes most low-carb candy &

stuff. That also limits my use of the stuff as there is no point in having the
trots over the use of one alcohol sugar laden food bar. That means I use mostly
Atkins (no sugar alcohols) and Pure DeLite chocolates.

I only use the bars/drinks when I am away from home (in class, going to court,
etc.) because they are calorically dense. Pure DeLite - well, I don’t even have
any right now and won’t until the weather cools down since I don’t want to pay
shipping that includes charges for cooling packets and the extra weight. That’s
okay. I can live without chocolate (most of the time).

DH likes the Lindt 90% bitter chocolate (one square, no more). I can’t stand
the stuff (it reminds me of baking chocolate and I hate bitter flavors).

    Be well!
    Marsha

I just went to the 10 pen yesterday after being on the 5 for 2months.
I had hardly any problems on the 5 (slight nausea) When I took the
first dose of the 10 yesterday, I got dizzy, nauseus, and got a
    horrible headache. Today was better.
Hopefully, you wont have any problems….

    Sarah,

I am so sorry you had a bad start with the 10 pen. I was like you….beginning
the 5, I had just a little nausea the first 4or 5 days. I take a dose before
breakfast and before supper. When do you take yours? Have you lost any weight?
I’ve lost 3-4 lbs and need to lose alot more. Let me know how you do on your 3rd
    day of the 10…

  16. Neva Marjory Says:

I’ve been on the 10 pen for a little over 2 weeks. In two weeks, I’m
going back on the 5 pen. Eating the same food, living the same life,
doing the same amount of exercise, everything, for me, is better on
the 5 pen. More weight loss, better blood sugar levels, less tiredness.
