Questions after 9 months on Byetta

Hi,
I’ve been on Byetta since Oct. 2005. I’ve lost 22 lbs
and probably gained it back because I don’t do very
well with my diet. I’m not writing about that
however. My question is, has any one on the group
used Byetta as long as I have and have you had any
stomach problems after this amount of time? I’ve been
having flu like stomach aches with no other symptoms
after taking Byetta. I haven’t said anything to my
endo because I don’t want to stop the Byetta because
it’s so great at keeping my appetite under control.

I know Byetta is a new drug and all the "bugs" haven’t
been worked out yet, so having stomach problems
concerns me a bit. I just hope that it’s temporary, I

would just hate to go back to insulin. I know that I
will end up 500lbs on itand I would rather die.

Thanks for any help,
in KS

Liz

I’m not trying to be snide, or condescending, but you
    answered your own
question. "probably gained it back because I don’t do
    very well with my
    diet".

The bottom line is if you don’t eat properly (i.e. for
    satiation only)
    you will have stomach problems.

Overeating on Byetta is a no-no if you want to avoid
    the stomach/nausea
    problems.

    Hi Dave,
I understand what you are saying and not taking it in
a bad way. I do usually eat small amounts at a time
normally because if I don’t I suffer. I have been
traveling and eating stuff I shouldn’t just because
I’m away from home. I think that is what couldhave
caused the last bout. I’m not sure what I ate that
made me sick but it was shortly after Ihad taken the
Byetta. It has happened before so I wondered if there
was a cause and effect. I really need to watch my
diet at all times and I have a coupleof excuses why I
don’t but they are excuses. thanks for your reply.

I have had to largely elminate red meat from my diet unless it is cooked to
death or ground. I do okay with fish and chicken in most any permutation. I
can do salads in modest amounts, do better with cooked veggies and have made
forays into raw carrots, which I seem to tolerate pretty well and which byetta
helps me to deal with in terms of carb count.

I am still reactive in the extreme to almost all grains (not nausea, but in
terms of BG) although I can deal with a very small amount of whole corn or corn
    tortillas.

We all seem to have to experiment and find what we can tolerate in terms of BG
and in terms of what our individual lizard likes to eat. :)
Still not quite ready for the mealworm and cricket pizza made on a thin fireant
    crust. (chuckle)
