Demetria

If you go to the home page of the diabetes_and Byetta group, you will
see a box on the left. LINKS. It will take you to a page with some
answers to your questions about byetta. These were put there from past
experiences from others. There is a link to get a free byetta travel
case from byetta. I am not sure if it still available, but all you
have to do is fill out the form and they send it to you. This is what
I use to go out to restaurants. There are other type of medi cases on
this link also. I think there is one you can get at target.

I use to take the shot on my arm, because I had problems injecting my
stomach area. I have since been taking my shots in my stomach area. I
don’t even pinch the skin. I just inject. I can not understand how a
doctor can give you an injectable drug and not show you how to use it.

Just Wondering

Hi….

I started taking byetta about a week ago, Actually July 3. Anyway, last
night was my first bout of Nausea and it was a doosey! I had some phenergan
that the dr. had prescribed for me a couple of years ago and I took one. I
kept waking up sick to my stomach during the night, but finally it went
away. But here’s the thing…I’ve practically been in a coma all day. I
think I must be sensitive to the phenergan. I’m still feeling out of it and
I took it almost 24 hours ago. Is there some other remedy that y’all can
suggest? Also, and this is very embarrassing, but it seems that since I’ve
started the byetta…I’ve had problems “GOING”. Is this common? We’ve also
had our son and his fiancée visiting so there has been a bit of stress.
We’ve been out a couple of times to eat, and I’ve tried the “thermos” thing
to keep my byetta cool. I got the ½ liter one at Wal-Mart and I am having a
hard time getting the bags to fit. Also, when I went to get the thermometer

did I do the right thing?

Friday, January 14th, 2005

This morning I was not feeling terribly well (from non-diabetes related
causes) and took my bs, began breakfast, and bit into a piece of cheese
and swallowed a tiny bit when I suddenly remembered - Byetta!

I know one is not supposed to do the shot after eating, but it was so
fast, and I had barely swallowed, that I quickly (within 2 minutes)
gave myself a shot. However, I’ve had an upset stomach ever since and
am wondering if it is related. I wonder whether I should have skipped
the morning shot and taken one at lunch or just waited until dinner?

Any thoughts?

Vitamins & Diabetics

Thursday, January 13th, 2005

Sorry Andrew for the animal stuff, didn’t mean to get off topic.

The first part of my previous post was about vitamins so I’ll get back
to that. I was just wondering about taking vitamins now that I have
diabetes because in the past I’ve not been very good about it. But I
thought maybe I should be now to try and get all my nutrients. Have
any of you ever tried Prevention Diabetic Support MultiNutrient
Tablets? They are by the Prevention magazine people. I saw an
adverstisement in Diabetes Self-Management magazine and then found
them on drugstore.com. Is there a particular multi-vitamin that is
suppose to be good for diabetics or are they even important to take?
I’m new to all of this.

Question about Byetta -How long does a pen last

Wednesday, January 12th, 2005

Say a 5 pen-
I realize some of this depends on how many injections per day. But ball
park how long does one last and what is the retail cost?
I might be switched to this and I am without insurance right now. I
looked at the cost on a drugstore site but without knowing how long a
pen might last, it wasn’t very helpful.

Byetta shortage

Wednesday, January 12th, 2005

Updated July 8, 2006: The shortage is now very real. According to several
readers, Medco is out of Byetta, and can’t predict when they’ll have it
again. Some people have stopped their Byetta, and others are searching for
pharmacies to supply it. I’ve written to my contact at Lilly, Mr. Schuler,
and requested an updated statement from them on what’s happening. I also
called the hotline (below) and confirmed that they can assist in finding
supplies.

If you can’t get refills on your Byetta from your usual supplier, call the
customer service hotline 1-800-868-1190 for advice on how to find it.

I haven’t had trouble getting it (yet) but I’ll continue to put in my order
as early as I can.

Fwd: [Diabetes_And_Byetta] question about the 10 pen ?

Tuesday, January 11th, 2005

Yes, others have had the same feeling. I actually asked my doctor
about not feeling full like I did on the 5 pen. He said some people do
not feel the fullness after being on byetta a while. I actually
remember feeling like you. In fact I stopped taking the byetta for a
day or two and I even saw that I would eat larger portions than when I
was on the 10 pen. The 10 pen was curbing my appetite some what. I
just didn’t realize it until I stopped taking the byetta. Right now, I
went down to the 5 pen again. Because I have had reactions from the
byetta and thought I did better on the 5 pen. Just testing the water.

Fwd: [Diabetes_And_Byetta] A BIG thank you and yet another question.

Monday, January 10th, 2005

Congratulations on starting byetta today. I have never gotten dizzy
from the shot, but I do sometimes get a little shakey for a few seconds
and then it goes away. You may have just been a little anxious or
check your blood sugar before you take the shot to make sure you are
not too low. See if it happens again.

To Elaine, Debbie and Nancy

OH THANK YOU! I THOUGHT I WAS THE ONLY ONE!!!!!!!

The most amazing carb thing I’ve found on Byetta is that I can eat "a"
cookie. Not a box of cookies, "a" cookie. It’s not that I think it’s a
good way to eat, but I spent 5 days at a funeral and shiva following,
and there was tray after tray of baked goods. Normally, I could have
inhaled it all, but each day, if I was anywhere near hungry, I picked
ONE. In my whole life I’ve never done that. I’ve picked "one of each"
but never just "one" — and that I know is ALL Byetta!

I agree that BG doesn’t rise when you have just a little of fruit or
grain — I have found that eating a little fat, too ( a cube of cheese
with my grapes, for example) is also very helpful.

But really — I’m glad there are others. So many people are low-carb
