Fwd: [Diabetes_And_Byetta] Just Wondering - Demetria

If you go to the home page of the diabetes_and Byetta group, you will
see a box on the left. LINKS. It will take you to a page with some
answers to your questions about byetta. These were put there from past
experiences from others. There is a link to get a free byetta travel
case from byetta. I am not sure if it still available, but all you
have to do is fill out the form and they send it to you. This is what
I use to go out to restaurants. There are other type of medi cases on
this link also. I think there is one you can get at target.
I use to take the shot on my arm, because I had problems injecting my
stomach area. I have since been taking my shots in my stomach area. I
don’t even pinch the skin. I just inject. I can not understand how a
doctor can give you an injectable drug and not show you how to use it.
Is she an endo? or prmary?
A lot of people get nausea. I took pepcid and that worked for me. I
found that if I over ate that is when I would get nausea too. I
stopped eating when I started to feel full and I really didn’t have a
problem. You also need to find out if you do not get nausea if you
take your shot right before you eat, or if you wait 15 minutes and then
eat. My doctor told me greater weight loss if you weight 15 minutes.
Byetta rep said to take it and then eat right away. That seems to help
with the nausea.
I think a lot of people get the sleepies. I did. Occasionally I still
get tired. As for not being able to go, I did not have this problem.
You get a Kudos from me for taking a byetta injection and no one should
you how to do it.

This happened to me, too. I saw a "diabetes team" who were hell bent on
prescribing me Lantus until I dug in my heels and told them I wanted Byetta.
After much trying to talk me out of it they capitulated. Problem is, the
nurse educator member of the team was out of town that day and I guess the
rest of them (the doc, the dietitian, the PharmD and the physical therapist)
all just sort of forgot about it — I assume she’s the one who would have
done the teaching had she been there. At first I thought it was a kind of
passive-aggressive punishment for not going along until I realized if I had
let them put me on Lantus I still wouldn’t have been shown how to do the
injections!
I’ve "fired" this team and will be going back to my regular physician
assistant. It wasn’t a total waste of time (nearly so but not total) since
my PA would not have felt comfortable with the Byetta on her own and I think
it would have been a much bigger battle.
I still haven’t met the nurse educator, she’s been mysteriously absent on
the two subsequent appointments I’ve had with this "team." Fortunately, I
can teach myself, plus there’s all of you guys to get help from.
