Just Wondering

Hi….

I started taking byetta about a week ago, Actually July 3. Anyway, last
night was my first bout of Nausea and it was a doosey! I had some phenergan
that the dr. had prescribed for me a couple of years ago and I took one. I
kept waking up sick to my stomach during the night, but finally it went
away. But here’s the thing…I’ve practically been in a coma all day. I
think I must be sensitive to the phenergan. I’m still feeling out of it and
I took it almost 24 hours ago. Is there some other remedy that y’all can
suggest? Also, and this is very embarrassing, but it seems that since I’ve
started the byetta…I’ve had problems “GOING”. Is this common? We’ve also
had our son and his fiancée visiting so there has been a bit of stress.
We’ve been out a couple of times to eat, and I’ve tried the “thermos” thing
to keep my byetta cool. I got the ½ liter one at Wal-Mart and I am having a
hard time getting the bags to fit. Also, when I went to get the thermometer

at bass pro shop, it only went down to 40. So I could tell if it was too
warm but not if it was too cold. Could someone give me some advice as to
how to keep it cool when I’m out? What I have been doing is a pain. But if
that’s all there is, then I’ll deal with it. My dr. hasn’t been much help.
She didn’t even instruct me on how to do the injections….I watched the video
on byetta.com and did it from there. Also, I tried to give myself a shot in
my leg and it HURT ! but I didn’t pinch any fat up. Could that have been
the reason? I’ve just been giving them in my abdomen. The lower side…it
hurts when I do the top. I’m confused. Sorry this has been such a rant.
But I’m not sure what I’m doing.

    Ok. take a deep breath.
try giving the injections in your belly. beleive it
or not it hurts a LOT less . i don’t even feel them in
my belly. i gave one in my thigh and it stung for an
    hour.

phenergan can make you sleepy on its own, but
considering the delayed gastric emptying, it may cause
it to last a bit longer. some people have complained
of fatigue with the byetta at first and it could be a
    combination effect

as for the constipation, again. delayed gastric
emptying. i found that at first i needed a bit of OTC
laxative. but that soon went away. for my, my

glucophage causes diarrhea, so they kinda balance each
    other out.

i have found that ginger helps the nausea a lot.
ginger tea, ginger cookies, or better yet nibbling on
a tiny bit of the ginger root itself. if you can’t
find ginger tea just make a cup of tea and add a tiny
bit (no bigger than a dime) of the root to the tea and
let it steep for a couple of minutes. the raw ginger
is very potent so it doesn’t take much.

you aren’t doing things wrong. this is just new for
you . you will get the hang of it. feel free to ask
questions. that is what we are here for.

andrew and i will share our mealworms and crickets
with you if you want some

I have been on Byetta for about 5 weeks. My endo told me to start
the first dose 5 minutes before I ate and then start backing up 5
more minutes each time until I got to around 45 min. before a meal.
This seemed to help with tummy upset. I also kept pepcip on hand in
case I started feeling sick. You could also break the phenergan in
half. It knocks me out too. She also told me that since I usually
ate a small breakfast to use the Byetta before lunch and dinner so
I’m not wasting a dose when I normally don’t overeat anyway. She
had this rectangle cushy thing covered in terry cloth from a drug
rep that she had me practice shots on while I was in her office to
make sure I understood how to do it. I received my welcome kit with
the free bag a couple of weeks ago so I think they are probably
still available. As for the gel packs with it that say not to
freeze the nurse prac. told me to keep them in the refrigerator and
a little while before going out stick them in the freezer and it

will keep the pen cooler. I have left them in for about 20 min and
did fine. As for a thermometer I took the hanging one that was in my
freezer and just laid it in the bag and then put it back in my
freezer. Hang in there, I know its hard I’m staying on the 5 pen
another month or two. I tried at the end of the first month to give
myself 2 shots of the 5 for a few days and I felt kind of sick and
not even fuller and that was at the end of a pen so I was afraid to
do the 10 especially with a new pen. But I got my new 5 pen and I
can tell it is back working better than at the end of the pen. Sorry
    so long,
    Saundra
