Okay, Now! How in the Heck do i Figure this out!!!!

Monday, January 31st, 2005

Lol..I have been sitting here trying to figure out how to divide up my fat,
protein and carb grams. I look like a monkey doing a math
problem.lol..Okay.So if I go with the "70% fat, 20% Protein, and 10% carbs"
And I eat 1800 calories a day (I am dropping my cals lower to see if I can
lose just a bit faster) Then How many GRAMS of each is that? I guess first
off I need to know how many calories are in a gram of fat? Oh
brother…HELP!!!!

Off topic ? re emergency rooms

Wednesday, January 26th, 2005

Since I understand it’s ok to discuss non-Byetta a wee bit in here, I
have a question. DH recently had a very expensive trip to the local
hospital emergency room for an injured hand. A friend told him
yesterday that it would have cost him a lot less to go to one of those
urgent care centers (sorry, I’m not sure what they are called, but you
see them around town) instead of an actual hospital.

I’m not sure our insurance (Unicare) would cover that. Does anyone
here have experience with those and can fill me in on the difference?
We are in our late 50’s and since those have popped up the past few
years we just aren’t familiar with them. Although we don’t want any
more emergencies here, I’d like to be better prepared "next" time.

Thanks for your input.

Fwd: [Diabetes_And_Byetta] Byetta Shortage?

Wednesday, January 26th, 2005

I have not sent through the mail plan lately, but I needed to get a pen
from a local pharmacy. Eckert drugs - 2 stores did not have it and
said it would take a couple days. They checked a local pharmacy for me
and they had it. Since the rx was called in by my doctor they
transferred it to the other pharmacy for me.

New to site and Byetta

Monday, January 24th, 2005

Hello guys, I’ve been reading on this site all week! I was diagonised
with Type 2 a couple of months ago and just this week been put on
Byetta. I think I am having good results so far. A little nausea the
first 3 days the some last night…none so far today.

I do have a couple of questions about somethings I’ve been reading on
here. What is a liver dump? What is an A1C? I’m sure I’ll have more
questions later. lol

Thanks…Kathy

When I travel, I carry a note from my doctor that says the medication
must stay with me at all times.

Need name of DR who will prescribe in Portland, Oregon

Friday, January 21st, 2005

Well, I took all the info I had from the folks here, info from
byetta.com and another web site to my doctor. She still refuses to
prescribe it for me since there are no studies to support its use for
people taking Lantus, I take 40 units at nite. I told her I want off
the Lantus because of the weight gain between the Lantus and Metformin
and she refuses, tells me I am insulin dependent and cannot stop
taking Lantus.
I lost my job and have to save $$ to go to a doctor in Portland
Oregon area out of pocket. I have an advocate trying to get
the ’spit’ for me until I get a new job and insurance. I have not
been out of a job in over 10 years and this is really starting to get
to me. I want off Lantus and want to try Byetta and hope it works for
me.
Can someone please help me in locating a physician in Portland area
who is good with diabettes and byetta? Please.

New to the site

Friday, January 21st, 2005

I just stumbled on to this site. I started taking Byetta mid-January
and with the lower dosage I had no problems. I did lose some weight
(and could stand to lose lots more) and had little other problems. My
glucose readings dropped considerably. I am also taking metformin,
glipizide and actos and was hoping to be able to eliminate some of them.

After a month my dose was increased to 10. We had company and went out
for dinner my first night on the larger dose. By the time we got home
I was sick and remained so most of the night. Coincidence??? It has
not happened again. However my numbers started going up almost
overnight. I don’t know why and neither does my endo. They have
remained higher until this last week and now they have again dropped to
the point I am starting to have low blood sugars again. I do not feel
good when my levels start to drop below 90 but the doc thinks that is
nonsense.

Glycemic index predicts blood sugar level after meal

Thursday, January 20th, 2005

Jul 07 (Reuters Health) - Assessing a meal using the glycemic index,
which lists the quality of carbohydrates contained in many common
foods, appears to be a good way to predict the effect a meal will have
on blood sugar levels, important information for diabetes, according
to the results of a study published in the American Journal of
Clinical Nutrition.

Dr. Thomas M. S. Wolever, of the University of Toronto and colleagues
examined whether overall carbohydrate content and glycemic index of
individual foods, as given in published tables, determined the effects
of a realistic mixed meal on the blood sugar in normal subjects.

The team measured the responses to six test meals in 16 subjects in
Sydney and eight meals in 10 subjects in Toronto, and then pooled the
results. The meals varied in amount of calories, protein, fat,

Fwd: [diabetes] Weight Gain

Wednesday, January 19th, 2005

I think you will hear from most of the group that you gain weight from
insulin. I did gain weight from Lantus. I stopped taking it. I am
now on it again but much lower dose than you take. I take byetta and I
think that has helped me not gain weight from the other insulins that I
am on. I take humalog, lantus, byetta, and I take metformin extended
1000.

Someone on the site takes Levamir and said they have not gained weight
from it.

How long have you had celiac disease? My husband has celiac. This is
his second year.
