A hoodia moment

Sunday, December 19th, 2004

Well, after being on "spit" since March it’s appetite fighting properties seem
to have wandered off on me. I was using hoodia only now and then, but then I
stopped losing and after that I gained a couple of pounds. Hmmm, I said, and
started checking my intake more closely. Indeed, carbs were fairly low, but
intake overall was up and I felt hungry more often.

Went back on the hoodia yesterday (2 times yesterday, once today) and I’m back
to eating like I did when I started the 10 mcg spit and could slack off the
hoodia. I guess that for me the hoodia is something I will have to get used to
taking over the long haul. I’m fortunate that the extract is something that
works to help overcome the insulin resistance hungries for me.

I got off track with exercise too over the last couple of weeks - too much
sitting on my butt writing and on the train to & from Boston. I have gotten
back on track with my walking DVD (I have no idea when and why I simply wandered

End of pen question

Friday, December 17th, 2004

When you reach the end of a pen, does it stop turning? My last one
never did and I am close to the end of this one and while I don’t want
to throw it away and waste any juice left in it, I don’t want to be
shooting blanks, either, lol.

So how do you know if you have reached the very end?

Thanks!

Ascensia Contour Monitor

Friday, December 17th, 2004

Just wanted to let everyone know that I have a free Ascensia Countour
Monitor if anyone wants it. It is made by Bayer. At the beginning of
the year our insurance company sent them out to us. It was a mistake
as our employer had already decided to stay with the Lifescan monitors.

This is a starter kit. It has the monitor, carrying case, 5 test
strips, the lancet and I think 5 needles. I opened the box, but
everything inside is still sealed…oh instruction books too. I do
not know how much the strips are retail.

Is there assistance in your area?

Tuesday, December 14th, 2004

I’m curious about something. How many of you live in an area where you can
get financial assistance with strips, syringes, and other supplies? I’m
aware of several forms of help for medications but there doesn’t seem to be
much out there for the supplies.

If you live in an area where there is help, from what organization/entity
does it come and do you know the qualifications to receive it and just what
help there is?

Thanks!

Hi Newbie here!

Tuesday, December 14th, 2004

Hi…

I just joined the group. I am started byetta tomorrow and I am
excited about it. I have read a lot of stuff about and I’m a little
nervous about the nausea thing, but i’m hoping that it can help me
feel better than i have. I haven’t been too vigilant as far as
testing my bs, but i suppose that will have to change when i start the
byetta to make sure it is working. I have been trying to low carb,
but just found out my insurance will pay for me to go to weight
watchers, so i think i will do that, and just try to watch my carb
choices. Have i said anything really stupid yet? I am looking
forward to learning from everyone here and i hope that soon i will
have something to offer to y’all as well…

Cheers!

Byetta in Britain

Tuesday, December 14th, 2004

Hello all, hello to some of the names i recognise from other DM
Groups. To get things rolling since adding avandia to my 2000 mg
metformin my weight has been slowly but inevitably rising. This
depresses me more than i really like to mention. In a previous life i
was a successful sportsman but having been DM for more than 15 years,
as well as tempus fugit, i am not able to perform to the high levels
that i kid myself i should.

I am pretty certain that losing 30 / 40 pounds i would really be able
to reinvigore my self in both sport and more generally life.

From what i understand, on this side of the atlantic, byetta is one of
those holy grail meds that not only treats the underlying symptom of
diabetes but also helps you shed weight in bucket loads.

Fwd: [Diabetes_And_Byetta] rash question - kristi

Monday, December 13th, 2004

Hi Kristi,

I have not experienced any pain that I can connect to the byetta. I
only had itching with the rash.
For this past week I have not had any itching, used the cream only
once. I do have the red dots where I inject the byetta, but that is
pretty much it. Are you on the 10 pen or the 5 pen? If you start
again you may want to go back to the 5 pen. I do not know if this will
help, just what some medical professionals have suggested to me.

I know what you mean about stopping the byetta. I do not want to stop,
because I believe it is preventing me from gaining weight.
My doctor said that he was thinking of trying me on symelin. He said
it may be better for me.

Symlin or Byetta

Monday, December 13th, 2004

Hello Everyone,

My endo just recently switched me from Byetta to Symlin hoping it
would better my control. I thought the Byetta was working a little to
lower my numbers, but I mostly was taking it because it was keeping me
from gaining weight and being hungry all time. Now that I have
switched to the Symlin I can’t see that it is doing anything. I am
starving and my numbers aren’t that great. Just wondering if there is
any Symlin users or past Symlin users that are now on Byetta? What
were your results? Kat
