BG before Byetta (Was Re: [Diabetes_And_Byetta] Re: newbi here)

I am not on any other medicines so I don’t know how Byetta changed my numbers as
opposed to some other medicine. As soon as I was diagnosed in May, my internal
medicine doctor put me right on Byetta. He had been watching my numbers and my
A1C had gone from 5.6 to 7.6 in two years, the last jump after I had been on
Prednisone for a pinched nerve. I was having numbers in the 200-350 range while
on steroids and that prompted the A1C test and the diagnosis of diabetes.

As far as side effects, I have had NO nausea or vomiting. The main side effect
that I experience, which people rarely mention on this list, is FATIGUE. I
normally am fairly high energy and have always been a late night person but
since Byetta, I am tired a lot and often am asleep at 10 pm. I keep hoping that
side effect will go away but so far, it’s not. I have lost 20 lbs and my 14 day
avg on my meter is 101 and since those are VERY GOOD things, I don’t complain
much about the fatigue.

Unlike some others in here who have better results with the 10mcg pen, I have
stayed with the 5 as I can’t take the lows I have on the 10. I have a 10 pen and
when I use it, I have to eat a whole lost more carbs than I want to or else I
find myself in the 50s-60s and miserable. Having to overeat sort of defeats the
purpose so I am sticking with the 5.

Walgreens was out and the pen was on back order last week but after going 3 days
without any meds, they located 2 and my doctor wrote my prescription so I could
go ahead and get both of them. My 14 day average includes those 3 days where I
had no meds so that makes me wonder. does Byetta stay in your system and keep
working? Does anyone know?

Janie, I wander about this also, as I traveled out to dinner this eve. w/my
pen, but drat, no needles. Therefore, no evening dose for me, but I still
have the burps from my morning Byetta dose. Lanie

    Gary –

I believe you on the half-life info. Question though –> since one of
the potential actions of Byetta is to help regenerate pancreatic
cells, do you think that after a certain period of use (1 year? 5
years?) despite the blood clearance, the effects would last longer due
    to a healthier pancreas?
