90…

Friday, November 12th, 2004

Believe it or not, I have been listening the experiences others have using more
carbs and getting a better reaction to byetta. As ya’ll know, I have a problem
with carbs and grains. Got to looking over my allergy testing and the primary
grain allergy issues are rice, wheat and rye. I only have a tiny bump on oats
and barley. Considering I get a false +2 to sterile water because I am so
reactive, I tried a small amount of steel cut oats today.

My BG had been high (152) because I forgot my fortamet last night (bad Marsha)
but after a small serving of the steel cut oats with salt and 1/4 cup of
blueberries I tested 2 hours later and my BG was 90!

I will repeat this tomorrow morning and see if I get the same effect. I will
also have to watch and make sure I don’t end up with an asthma attack from using
grain, but if I don’t react to the steel cut oats (keep your fingers crossed for
me) then maybe I can add small amounts back into my diet.

Hi

Friday, November 12th, 2004

I am a 34 year old female with Type 2 diabetes. I have been diabetic
since 2001. There is no family history of diabetes in my family. My
numbers have been all over the charts. In the last 3 weeks I have been
really watching what I am eating and exercising. I went to the doctor
to check my Thyroid and am now seeing an endo. dr now for the first
time. I had only been using my family dr. He has me on another pill and
mentioned when I come back in 4 weeks about putting me on Byetta also.
I have struggled with my weight since my school years. I am reading
everyones messages getting input on this. Thank you for letting me join
your group.

fasting blood glucose went down (YEA!)

Friday, November 12th, 2004

I am still taking prednisone but the dose has been tapered down to 3 pills
today, 2 tomorrow, one the next day, and then I’m done with it. I checked my
fasting blood glucose this morning and it was 81! Wow, it’s not usually
ever that low even with Byetta and no prednisone! Then I ate a lunch rather
heavy in carbs. I tested my blood glucose 2 hours later and it was only 78! I
wish I could get that kind of results all the time! The first month or so
that I was on Byetta, I felt full most of the time and had little interest in
food. The first month I lost 8 pounds, making a total loss of 36 added to
what I’d already lost. But now the Byetta no longer gives me the feeling of
being full and I want to eat a lot more often and bigger portions–ugh! So, I
think I got some weight back (frown). I wish I could get back that feeling of
being full all the time. I know the Byetta is working because my blood
sugars are coming down. This weight battle is a real pain. Janet

Thursday, November 11th, 2004

was 101 this morning. was 120 just now when i took lantus and byetta.

have added fruit (had a peach and 6 cherries before bed) and lowered lantus
to 36 last night. only took 30 this morning.

can’t say if it’s the spilt lantus dose, adding a few carbs, or antibiotic
working.

i’m back to not being hungry, no nausea, and that makes me very happy.

Fwd: [Diabetes_And_Byetta] Newbie

Wednesday, November 10th, 2004

Hi Shannon,

Welcome to the group!
I am type 2. 53 years old/Female. I have diabetes for about 2 1/2
years.
I fell off the wagon too back in December. I got depressed. This
happens with diabetes.

The important thing is that you are back on track. I love belonging to
the group because it keeps diabetes in my face. I get the emails
delivered to my box. Every time I sit at the computer I am reminded
that I am a diabetic. For me that is good.

new byetta drugs coming

Tuesday, November 9th, 2004

Byetta mimics glp-1 a hormone which is produced by nutrition entering the
gut and is involved in insulin production. Usually glp-1 is broken down by
dpp-iv which is always in the body, byetta is resistant to this
breakdown and stays at a higher level longer.

New drugs related to this process are soon to appear. To prevent the
breakdown of glp-1 by suppressing dpp-iv the normal glp-1 can be kept
longer at a higher level. Here is a story about these and a new glp-1
mimic like byetta:

Here is a more detailed and technical look at the new glp-1 mimic:

The dpp-iv drugs are once a day pills and the glp-1 mimic a once a day
injection. They all seem to produce the same positive effects as does
byetta. It will be interesting to see how the market works out in this
