My fear of needles - Lowered since starting Byetta

Monday, October 11th, 2004

For those who haven’t started Byetta, I would like to
share that I used to be just terrified, petrified even
of needles. I had some horrible stories of throwing
up on doctors, being so upset, I passed a nice large
"wind", and just all out crying and screaming, and
this was either as a child, teen, and sometimes as an
adult.

Since starting Byetta a little over a month ago, I
don’t have such a fear of needles. The needles are
small on the Byetta Pen, and you don’t usually hit
veins, so its not like a "real needle". I went and
got my A1C about two weeks ago, let them take blood
out of my arm and I didn’t cry, I didn’t scream, and I
was completely calm. I used to hyperventilate

Random Thoughts

I missed a few days of posts as it seems my grandmother is dying and I
had to run up to NY — WOW! you folks are prolific. (No tears for my
grandmother, she is 107 and may actually rally — she has lived a long
life on her own terms, we should all be so lucky).

Anyway — what is hoodia?

Gerald — you and I could be twins — I don’t like to share things I
don’t want to recall, but there is something powerful about weighing
so much that people cannot pick you up and toss you like kindling 12
feet across the room into a wall. I, like you, have good levels, and
considerations. HOWEVER — I plan to start taking Byetta next Friday
night. I have an appointment with my doc this Friday for the scrip,
and plan to take my first shot with a few friends around. According to
the info that the mfg gives to docs, there is a 1 in 10,000 chance of

fasting blood glucose finally coming down

Friday, October 8th, 2004

I have been on Byetta for 7 weeks and my daytime blood glucose levels have
gone down a lot but due to the dawn effect, my morning levels were staying
between 100 and 120, and sometimes even went higher. Well, today I tested at
83
when I got up in the morning. YEAH! I have gotten down to a fasting blood
glucose of 89 a couple of times but 83 was definitely my lowest. I wish I
could get that every day in the morning. Maybe eventually……sigh. (I am on
the 10 mcg pen). Janet

Newbie Considering Byetta

Friday, October 8th, 2004

Hello everyone, i joined this group a couple of days ago because when i
saw my primary doctor last week she suggested that i’d be a good
candidate for Byetta. I was diagnosed Type 2 in 2000 and had fairly
good control for a while but got sloppy. Now my weight is up (not
telling how up but UP) as well as my A1C’s and my meter readings are all
over the place. Currently i’m taking Avandia 4mg and Metformin 500 mg
twice a day. I’m scheduled to see my doctor a week from today when
we’ll make the decision about Byetta so i’m here to learn what i can and
from what i see this is a great place to get the information and
opinions on Byetta i need to make the right decision.

Fwd: [Diabetes_And_Byetta] the 10 pen is def not working for me/dale

Friday, October 8th, 2004

Hi Jodi,

Yes, I am still having problems. If I do not take the clarinex or
sometimes use the cream it starts to react with itching. My doctor
mentioned to me that maybe he would switch me to symelin. I do not
know about symelin, or something like that. My diabetic trainer told
me to ask the doctor to go back to the 5 pen and see what happens. I
do not know what to do, a little confused.

Do you still have the lot number from your pen? I have mine. it is
9SC11M exp.date 10/2007

Fwd: [Diabetes_And_Byetta] the 10 pen is def not working for me

Jodi,

When I was on the 5 pen my numbers dropped. It was great. When I
started the 10 pen all problems began. My numbers went up like yours
and I have the rash etc. Byetta wanted the lot number on my pen, which
I gave to my diabetic trainer. All three of my pens have the same lot
number.

Take note of the lot number.

Maybe your pen was not injecting the right amount of byetta.

Fwd: [Diabetes_And_Byetta] When did negative side effects start for

Tuesday, October 5th, 2004

Denise,

I really think my problem started when I went to the 10 pen. I
developed a rash, hive, at the injection site. It was itchy. I take
clarinex and use a coritsone cream and it has helped.

Fwd: [Diabetes_And_Byetta] Byetta and Lantus

Monday, October 4th, 2004

> Hi Pat,

I take insulin with byetta. I take Lantus 20 at night and humalog on a
scale 3 x’s a day. I take glucophage extended 1000 at dinner.

Print out some of these emails and show your doctor. That is what I
did when I developed a rash to prove it was not just me.

I can not imagine someone just giving you insulin and expect you how to
use it. I might look for another doctor.

good luck
Dale
