makes no sense…

dr told me to split me dose and take just 35 units of lantus last night. i
fully expected to be near 300 this am. i was only 168!

how can this happen on less than half the lantus dose? i am curious to see
what happens after i take the byetta later.

part of it may be absorption. my doctor told me not to
take more than 10 u of humalog in a single spot(i was
having to take as much as 100u at a time) because the
body couldn’t absorb it. so i had to take several
small shots.and it did work better. also if you are
insulin resistant at all, by taking 70 u at a time you
are overwhelming your body. it can’t utilize the
insulin, so breaking it up is kinda like sneaking it
in the back door. you are still getting the same
amount of insulin, just not all at the same time.

i had a terrible time trying to take insulin at first.
i am so resistant, that the more i took, the higher my
sugars got.for a while i just stopped taking anything
because my sugar was the same whether i took insulin

or i didn’t. so why give myself shots all day. then
they came out with the lantus. that helped a lot. i
had been on every thing from humalog on down to ultra
lente. i take levemir now. i like it a lot.it is also
a basal insulin. you can take it once or twice a day.
and it isn’t associated with weight gain like some
    are…

you should read the schwarzbein principle. she
    explains this stuff so well

i do recall that bernstein also said to take big doses in multi shots. bg
rose to 198 2 hours after i took my morning bg and pills (just black coffee
till then). i took the remaining dose of lantus and shot 10 spit. bgs has
not budged since then so maybe the spit is working. i know that lantus takes
about 6 hours to get to that little peak.

funny thing is my breath tastes like when you are on atkins (sweat sock
like). yicky. but have had breakfast and so far so good. just hope the
numbers go back down to like 118 pp.
