in trouble need help

Friday, August 13th, 2004

bg was at about 296 a few hours ago. i took my 1000mg of glucophage and
checked again about an hour ago. it was only down to 248. i don’t have any
humalog or any other fast acting insulins in the house and no way am i
driving to town to get any. i took my 10 mcg of spit about 30 minutes ago. i
am somewhat nauseous maybe from the high bg.

i have an infection but didn’t want to go to the dr for pills cause it will
clear up on it’s own soon enough (it’s a boil that hasn’t burst yet). i
think i will have to up my lantus at bedtime to hopefully get a lower bg by
am but what about the pen? is it working or not? i can’t tell.

Sugar as drug?

Friday, August 13th, 2004

An interesting article on CNN demonstrating the addictive power of sugar in
rats.

While we are not rats, there is no reason to believe that there is much of a
difference with us and it explains the intense cravings for sugar that we
develop - dopamine release.

I read "The Sugar Blues" (most libraries have it) a long time ago and recognized
that sugar was a real problem substance and have generally avoided it like the
plague since then, but this just confirms the old theories.

Travelling to India with Byetta

Thursday, August 12th, 2004

Hello:

I am travelling to India and Bangladesh this July for a month.
I have been on Byetta for several months and it has become
a miracle!

The temperatures in India and Bangladesh are horrible
at this time of year - about 105-110 F and the humidity is
as bad. My hotel rooms will have AC and a refridgerator.
How do I carry the Byetta and ensure that it does not get
spoiled ?

I did order a Medicool pack (medicool.com) but don’t know
how to use it.

Picking up RX today…what to expect ???

Thursday, August 12th, 2004

Yes, there is a newbie here…now with all pride aside…here goes.
I am getting rx for my husband 49 yr old over weight diabetic…blood
sugar levels average 260’s low 300’s. He is currently on 10mg
glipizide xl & 1000mg metaphomin in the am and 10mg glipizide xl pm.
(Should I cut am of this back or wait & see how it goes. - md said we
may have to cut back…but from voice of experience out there is it
better to cut back with 1st injection)
Do I load up my cart with Pepto Bismo & glucose tabs?
Can I look forward to cutting my food bill…god this guy can eat
The doctor asked for a fasting blood sugar…I asked him when might
that be…while he’s sleeping???
I’m hoping for a miracle…I have tried it all…I did get sugar
around 140’s with Atkins…meat, egg & cheese…a few pounds off in 3
months…but h cried he didn’t feel good with his sugar low and the
diet went out the window. He owns his own company and does

Fwd: [Diabetes_And_Byetta] Re: New to the group

I heard that too. It is blue plates that are supposed to suppress your
appetite. Green is a color that does not look very good on a lot of
people. They say if green is not your color and you want to go home
early from work, wear green. It may make you look sick.

Tuesday, August 10th, 2004

I find this very interesting that you could use a needle for that long.
I just used a new needle at dinner time and after the injection I
looked to unscrew from my pen and there was no needle. It broke.
Luckily, it was on my skin and as far as I know there is none left in
my stomach area. lol

not sure how much insulin I got in me though.

I get my byetta from Medco mail order. They actually call my house to
make a date for it to be delivered. It comes in the their cold pack in
a styrofoam box. I have no problem. Just have to stay home that day.

Byetta temperature

Thursday, August 5th, 2004

I haven’t started taking Byetta yet and am on this
list to learn more about it. My health insurance
requires that I purchase drugs from their mail order
group. I live in Houston where it is pretty warm all
year (not often below 40s) and extrememly warm from
May through October. I am concerned about the Byetta
that would be sitting in the heat in a UPS or mail
truck in these temperatures.

Any ideas?

10 pen not working?

Thursday, August 5th, 2004

firstly, last night i sorta drank a bit with the neighbor. had 2 huge shots
of something called grand marnier (yicky) and then a brandy snifter of "mama
juana" which he just brought back from dominican republic. the latter also
was yicky but it is a drink mixed into another bottle filled with leaves and
other icky looking stuff. once poured to a glass it has the liquid and also
sediment in it. it’s touted as an herbal viagra for both men and women but
personally i think it’s just an urban legend to sell the stuff which comes
in nice leather bottles.

however, my bg was up to 210 this morning!! neighbor said it is a mixture of
a red wine, rum, and honey! and then the leaves off something or other. so i
guess the honey really raised my bgs. i figured this morning would be a good
time to start the 10 pen since i only had a few days of the 5 left. 2 hours
after pen (yes i primed and had to do it twice to shoot juice) i was only
down to 207. i have had black coffee, had 1/2 cup of tuna salad for

Senate Bill 1955

Senate Rejects Effort to Cut Off Debate on Small Business Health Insurance Bill
Threat to State Parity Laws Averted – For Now In the "for what it is worth"
department, the Senate bill so many have been so concerned about has been pulled
from consideration (for now) according to a NAMI announcment. - Marsha

May 12, 2006
By a vote 55-43, the Senate rejected the effort to limit debate on S 1955,
legislation to authorize new small business health insurance plans that would
have significantly undermine laws at the state level requiring health plans to
cover treatment for mental illness on the same terms and conditions as all other
illnesses (insurance parity). The vote was on a critical parliamentary motion
to impose “cloture” — to cut off debate and move S 1955 to final passage with
very limited opportunities for amendments. In the Senate, 60 votes are required
to impose cloture, thus the motion fell five votes short.
With the prospect of unlimited Senate debate on S 1955, Majority Leader Bill
