Friday, July 16th, 2004

I found this formual for figureing avereage BS using the A1c on the
Cleveland Clinc website

HbA1C level x (multiplied by) 33.3 – 86 = average blood glucose level
for the past 90 days. HbA1C can be helpful to track diabetic control
over time.

Medicare Part D

Does anyone know if Medicare will pay for Byetta? I’m going to be
getting on Medicare come January of next year and I’m scared to death
that they aren’t going to cover this drug.

good doctor checkup today

Tuesday, July 13th, 2004

Today I went to the doctor for my first checkup after starting Byetta. I
had been on Byetta
5 mcg twice a day for 4 weeks. The doctor said my blood glucose numbers
were great and I had lost a total of 8 pounds in the 4 weeks. I’d been home
sick the whole month with a very sore throat and no voice and got no exercise,
so I was sure I’d gained weight. So, I was VERY pleasantly surprised to be
told I’d lost 8 pounds! Now I have lost 36 pounds since the beginning of
January
when I was diagnosed with diabetes and put on Metformin (and later Byetta).
The doctor increased my Byetta to 10 mcg twice a day and I don’t have to see
the doctor for another 2 months. That’s the kind of news I like to hear.

Tuesday, July 13th, 2004

I emailed this company who has a new meter that does not require
sticking with lancets.. It uses a clip on the ear.

Below is the resopnse:

Dear Angela,

Due to regulatory process, the GlucoTrack™ will not be ready for
marketing in the USA before the beginning of 2008 (as an estimation).

byetta and pancreatitis

Tuesday, July 6th, 2004

I am a physician, a kidney specialist, who is now treating a patient who
developed severe
pancreatitis after taking Byetta. She came to our hospital in shock and kidney
failure
(pancreatitis frequently does this) and is recovering nicely. I found one report
of a similiar
case. Does anyone know of any other cases or medical reports?

Non-Invasive GlucoTrack™ Monitor

Tuesday, July 6th, 2004

I am lloking forward to something like this I sure hope It is aforable

Non-Invasive GlucoTrack™ Monitor
Integrity Applications has developed a noninvasive glucometer
that "combines three independent technologies that are operated
simultaneously to provide an accurate and reliable on-the-spot reading
of glucose levels in the blood. The technologies include ultrasound,
conductivity, and heat capacity." The measurements’ results are
analyzed by a particular algorithm, and the combined end-result is
displayed to the user on a digital screen. Extreme values, pre
determined by a user, cause visual and audible alerts. Also according to
the article, the Phase 2 clinical trials of the device are to begin in
Israel, the US and Spain in the next couple of months.

black and white

Monday, July 5th, 2004

I read an article in a diabetes newsletter regarding the difference in fat in
the bellies of white and black women. I am multi-racial (don’t look it, but I
am) and perhaps this helps explain why my fat clings to me like a drowning
sailor.

Cheers
