lizard menu, weight loss and numbers

Tuesday, June 15th, 2004

Over time it appears that my lizard is becoming a lacto-ovo vegetarian with
forays into chicken and fish. It makes me wonder if meal worms and crickets
bear any resemblance to "white meat." :)
I’ve also developed a very careful way of eating to prevent several hours of
bloated stomach thereafter. You’d a thunk that during about 2 months of byetta
use I’d have figured out that rigidly controlled consumption means I won’t be up
until 3 a.m. wishing I could heave to get the bloating and pain under control.

I’ve had to use hoodia a bit more often due to "inappropriate hunger" where I am
both bloated and hungry. It is an insane feeling to have both. Darn insulin
resistance!

Only one more pound down. I suspect that is because I am glued to a chair,
studying. Once finals are over on Friday I will be able to do something other

alcohol

Tuesday, June 15th, 2004

Just a note before I log off for the night…

Roy, there is probably a bit of diversity in thought on alcohol use with
diabetes.

Common sense as well as prior research and diabetes gurus like Bernstein
indicate that diabetics may use alcohol in moderation unless they are taking
medication that conflicts with it. Even metformin users CAN drink in
moderation, they simply should not guzzle and that is because metformin is hard
on the liver all by itself.

DH uses alcohol - no more than a glass or two of wine a day at the most - and
using it after dinner helps keep his BG down. He is NOT hypo man.

You can find more about that in one of his books if you want to check it out

File - Byetta Tips

Monday, June 14th, 2004

1. Byetta: we call it Gilly, Lizard Spit, and a few others names, some of which
can be printed here. We call ourselves Lizard Lovers.

2. The nausea will pass. Until it does try:
- sea bands for motion sickness. They are bands that go around your wrists and
use acupressure to releive nausea. They can be purchased at CVS, Walgreens and
similar stores. At Walgreens they are called Travel Ease.
- Regalin and other prescription drugs
- crackers, pretzels, or other dry carbs
- GINGER! Ginger snaps, ginger gum, ginger ale, ginger pills
- mint, as in peppermint candy
- try eating less fat or less greasy food
- try eating less. Most people get more nuaseaus on a full stomach
- try to think like a lizard. Avoid waht would make a lizard nauseaus

low carb BBQ

Saturday, June 12th, 2004

Most commercially BBQ sauces are pretty wretched for low carbing. I have not
tried this but found it on a website.

As with all things, YMMV - if you are a good cook then find a sauce you like and
start replacing high carb items with low carb ones. If you can find asulfame k
(sunette) in pure form without the dextrose added (I used to be able to find it
in bulk but can’t locate it since the big companies started snarfing it up) then
you can mix that with splenda and some other non-carb or low carb sweetners.

You cannot do much about all the carbs in tomatoes. You can only use less of
the sauce. Or you can use other things - like dipping chicken legs in butter
and then rolling them in spiced parmesean cheese and baking them instead of
using a BBQ sauce.

I have not checked in my Dana Carpenter cookbooks for low carb BBQ, but I have a

bbq sauce

Saturday, June 12th, 2004

daughter talked me in to buying this expensive zero carb/calorie bbq sauce
since i was making ribs last night. it was horrible!!! such a sweet, or fake
sweet taste.

thankfully i just cooked the ribs with a rub and put the sauce on the side
but was wondering if anyone has a recipe for an unsweetened (not fake
sweetened) bbq sauce.

where i’m at now

Tuesday, June 8th, 2004

hi all

just wanted to update on where i am with my bg’s. i am down from 80 of
lantus to 60 a day. bg’s were going down steadily. yesterday averaged in the
110’s and today woke to a 81 with a max of 89. i am testing about 12 times a
day so not to miss any higher numbers.

will cut lantus to 55 tonight. only side effect from spit is the mild
tiredness but still that could be from my 3 month old grandson :) he is here
a lot which is great!

as for food (yick), i still tend to do an egg with a small bit of ham or a
kosher all beef hot dog. no lunch or snacks cause i can’t even think about
food anymore. water, coffee, and an occasional diet soda during the day.
supper is always about a cup or cup and a half of lettuce with 2 or 3
