Travel Pack - Constantly keep in fridge?

Got my Byetta Welcome kit today, with the travel pack, and all that..
What an awesome thing to get! Now I wonder if people keep their
entire pack in the fridge, with their pen in it, rather than in the
stupid little annoying box. Can you? Does it change anything? I
can’t imagine it would get too cold in there, nor too warm.. it is
still a fridge.

Just curious.

Thanks!

Kristen

I like the box. Lol. But I keep the pack in there too, just in case I need
    it.

Love is defined as: Trust, Understanding, Respect
    & dignity .
I say that if any of these elements are missing,
    then i question the love.
This would apply for ANY relationship.

I keep the entire pack in the fridge so it’s ready if I want to use it,
though I only have used it once to go out to dinner with. If you want to
keep your pen in the travel pack in the fridge I’m sure that would be fine,
the temp inside the pack would be the same as the temp in the fridge, except
during the time it was re-cooling after having been used. (Perhaps just
don’t zip it up until the gel packs have re-cooled?) I put a small jar on
the door shelf in my fridge and I stand the pen up in there (I checked with
a thermometer to make sure the temp is okay there). I throw the box away,
but if you were planning on traveling with it by air or out of the country
you’d probably want to keep the box around.

The travel pack is cute, but its practicality is limited since it only keeps
the right temperature for a couple of hours. I’m not really sure what they
    were thinking there.

i bought a thermometer for my fridge today. we have one of those 27 cubic
foot monsters and i always thought the temp was fine in it till today. in
the door there is a top part that has a sort of rounded clear glass piece to
hold items in it. according to the thermometer, it is between 48 and 50
degrees in that part. i have always kept all of my insulins in it with no
problems! that part of the fridge is just known as mom’s for meds. it stays
clean and nothing gets bumped or contaminated with foods. i am now checking
the rest of my fridge and i suppose i need to move my lantus too since i
keep my unused ones in there and that can be as many as 8 or 10 bottles.

    Hi Judi,

Byetta must stay in the fridge or be under some kind of cooling. I believe it
can be left out at room temp for around 100 hours (total) during a month (I
believe Andrew has information on it on the site or in the archives) and if you
leave it out too long you’ll need a new pen because it will lose potency.

Consider putting a big note on your desk at work that says REMEMBER THE SPIT -
it will be a great conversation piece and you may remember your pen. I have
never forgotten the pen, but I have forgotten the needles. Now I pack a bunch
of needles in the carry case. I also have an Advent travel case from Target
which is actually for baby bottles that has plenty of room for crushed ice that
is what I use if I am going very far or for very long. There is another case
you can get for about $50 that is better than that - I am sure Andrew has a link
to that in the links section. I don’t travel that much so the Byetta case and

the Advent case are fine for me.

How high are your BGs? Mine were still often in the 170’s when I started the
10 mcg pen. I have never had a low and rarely have hit my target range of 85.
However, I take only Byetta and about 1500-2000 mg of Metformin. I’m still sort
of high at night and am considering adding a late dose of 5 mcg byetta to see if
that will help carry me all night. If you are taking insulin or other meds you
might want to start the 10 pen during the day and watch your BG carefully to see
if you need to adjust down the doses of the other meds.

    Cheers!
    Marsha

My BGs did drop significantly lower (60s-70s) when I started the 10mcg dose,
but I was also on Actos and Amaryl (in addition to metformin) at the time.
Dropping the Actos and Amaryl has prevented the lows. It’s also mostly
prevented the double digit numbers (80s and 90s) I really want, but they’re
still good when I watch what I eat.
