Lows with the 10 mcg pen?

Wednesday, June 30th, 2004

Did any of you experience lows when you switched from the 5 to the
10? I made the switch on Saturday and my BG dropped to 60. I had to
drink OJ and eat a Baby Ruth to get it up to 101. I am going to get
some glucose tablets today. It took it a while to go back up.

Then yesterday we went to my Mom’s for Mother’s day. I took my shot,
then about 25 mins later ate salad, steak, and a wheat roll. I
started feeling sort of dizzy and took my BG and it was 82, which,
while I know it’s in the normal range, felt like a low.

Am I going to do this every time with the 10 Pen or will I adjust? It
was one thing to have that awful low from ODing on the stuff but to
go low when I am taking a regular dose? My doctor doesn’t have a lot
of experience with this drug so calling him to see if this is normal,
wouldn’t really be of any help to me.

raised blood sugars

Tuesday, June 29th, 2004

I’ve been on Byetta since August. I had been doing very well,
especially after the first of the year. But I travelled a lot in March
and April was busy with family functions. My blood sugars got really
high………over 200 many times.

I’m wondering if it is just because I have not been eating as well as I
should, or if it is possible for the positive effects of Byetta to
decline? I’m not noticing a rapid reduction in my numbers since I am
being more careful about what I eat, but I also have not been THAT
careful.

Any thoughts?

Sryinges

Saturday, June 26th, 2004

Why couldn’t you just open the syringe and push your dose into it rather than
draw it out?

think back to how little came out when you primed a new pen. i have syringes
in all sizes from when i took 4 to 6 shots a day and don’t think any are
marked well enough to measure that little bit of spit.

jodi

The 5 mcg pen has 1.2 cc of spit in it, for 60 doses. That’s 0.02 cc
per dose — can syringes measure out that small a dose? Yes, maybe
that’s why they say not to transfer the spit to a syringe.

Travel Pack - Constantly keep in fridge?

Friday, June 25th, 2004

Got my Byetta Welcome kit today, with the travel pack, and all that..
What an awesome thing to get! Now I wonder if people keep their
entire pack in the fridge, with their pen in it, rather than in the
stupid little annoying box. Can you? Does it change anything? I
can’t imagine it would get too cold in there, nor too warm.. it is
still a fridge.

Just curious.

Thanks!

Kristen

Fwd: [Diabetes_And_Byetta] A Pen Question

Monday, June 21st, 2004

Carl,

You can check with your local hospital. My hospital has a certain day
and time for people to drop off their needles in a coffee can with tape
around it or in a sharp container.

A Pen Question

Sunday, June 20th, 2004

Several months ago my diet counselor gave me a kit that contained the pen and
several needles. We accidentally threw away the extra needles and I have been
using the same pin and needle for several months. I just got a new pen yesterday
should I throw away the old pen? And if so how should I dispose of it?

Blood in my pen

Saturday, June 19th, 2004

What should I do?

There is now blood in my pen.

I took my Byetta tonight, just before dinner. I did nothing
different, and it must have hit a vein, as it bled, and when I pulled
the needle back, there was blood on the needle, and then I saw that
somehow, blood got into my byetta pen. What do I do? Do I throw it
away, get a new one? Is it safe, since its my own blood? Is it
contaminated now?

The only other thing I noticed was that I got nauseated really fast,
to where I couldn’t really eat much dinner, but I think thats because
it got into my system faster, by hitting the vein.. and its possible I
was just nervous and stressed with the fact that I got blood in that

a few more questions

Wednesday, June 16th, 2004

yesterday i was absolutely starved all day! now i didn’t eat more than i
have been but i wanted to.

it surprised me cause i have been living on lettuce salads, eggs, a few
strawberries, some small amounts of meats, and a bit of cheeses. here’s
what’s strange though…i may or may not have hit a vein when i took my
morning dose of spit.

i hate the pen since you can’t pull back the plunger to check for blood.
however, i assumed that since the pen needles are so short that i wouldn’t
hit a vein. but i wonder if the sudden hunger was like not having the spit
for the full 6 hours.

is there anyway to make sure you don’t hit wrong with the pen?
