How to Enhance Weight Loss

Sunday, May 9th, 2004

Hi! I am new to this group; I just started using Byetta about 3 weeks
ago, and I anticipate starting the 10 mcg dose twice per day, in about
another week. I wonder if anyone has found a way to enhance weight
loss, such as eating your largest meal at a certain time, or drinking
1 or 2 glasses of water before meals, or eating right away after the
injection or waiting almost a full hour. I find that I am hungriest
in the evening, and if I eat a small meal then wait for an hour or so
I finally feel satisfied; but I could easily overeat at the time I eat
dinner if I don’t watch it. My appetite is lowest in the morning,
when my stomach is empty. But as soon as I put something into my
mouth, my appetite is back. Also, some of my old favorites like
fresca seem to have a weird aftertaste now, and the biggest problem is
constipation! I am interested in other peoples’ experiences, and the
habits of those who are losing weight compared to those who aren’t
losing weight.

feeling of fullness with Byetta

Friday, May 7th, 2004

I started on the 5 mcg twice a day dose of Byetta 12 days ago. At first I
felt full nearly all of the time, wasn’t hungry very often, and ate a lot
less. I had no cravings for sweets or high carb foods. Now after only 12 days
my appetite is coming back and I feel hungrier again. I also no longer feel
the same fullness after eating as I did at first. Because of that, I have
eaten more the past few days and probably have canceled out any weight I lost
at
first. I have had no side effects from the Byetta except for some bloating
at first which has gone away. My blood sugars during the day are fine but
the fasting ones have not come down any on the Byetta and have sometimes gone
up a little compared to before. Besides the Byetta, I am on 1000 mg of
metformin twice a day. The amount was doubled from 500 twice a day just before
I
started on Byetta because my A1c test had gone from 6.3 to 7.2 in just 3
months after I had been diagnosed with diabetes. My diagnosis was 4 months

weight loss & diabetes

Friday, May 7th, 2004

For those interested in the articles on weight loss curing diabetes here are a
few links on the subject…

Most articles say that cures generally take place where the weight loss is in
excess of 100 pounds. That would indicate (to my little pea brain) that the
problems in the people with less weight may be more beta cell weighted than
insulin resistance weighted - or at the very least that there is at least a
component of beta cell death in the less hefty patients.

Sort of an interesting tangent here as I’d always believed that when I got my
weight and exercise issues straightened out I would go back to being
hypoglycemic (which I have been since age 18) and still be low carbing and
watching my weight, but not actively diabetic unless I did something
self-destructive (but understandable) like eating cake.

I think that is what really counts, better numbers is what it is all
about.

Debbie,

Why don’t you call byetta and tell them your travel case broke. I have
mine since February and like it very much and I use it every weekend..
