Increasing BS after 2 hours
I have been using Byetta since it first came available. The problem
that I am having now seems to be getting worse and I am just wondering
if anyone else here experiences this and what do you do? Two hours
after I eat my BS is at a good level after injecting Byetta, usually
around 125. But after 2 hours it starts rising and goes way up. For
instance, last night I was 105 after dinner and 165 at bedtime. I am
not snacking. This happens every night. The only way I can stop the
rise is to start injecting Novolog. Kat

well after eating, your sugars do rise for two hours.

How much your BG rises after a meal may well depend upon your carbs consumed.
Bernstein rigidly controls for carbs and likes to see only a 10 point
fluctuation. I control rigidly for carbs and tend to have virtually the same BG
2 hours after meals than before meals.
It sorta depends on what you want to do to get there.
My eating habits are:
meat
eggs
cheese
fish
low carb veggies
the odd low carb fruit
I’m even more draconian than John. I’m a 30 gram a day carber or less.
I’ve been wildly adventurous recently eating 1-2 strawberries a day, but since
they take up the bulk of my carbs it’s not too bad.
I’m not sure that 140 or 150 would be that bad after a meal, but I’d rather keep
it within 10 points of where I started, if I can. Its a personal decision
regarding how tight a control one wants to have over one’s BG.
Cheers!
