Byetta Sucess Story

Hey guys,

I just thought I’d let you hear some good news. I’ve got PCOS and think I’ve
had Syndrome X since I was a kid, I know well way before they diagnosed it.
I started on Byetta 1-20-06 and I had a really hard time with it.

When I start the 5 mg I was nauseous the first 3 weeks. After the first
month I started the 10 mg and let me tell you, it was awful. I felt like I had
a serious case of the flu and it lasted 3 hours after each shot. So, I did
what I always do, I quit taking it for a 2 weeks before I told my Doctor.

When I did, he put me back on the 5 mg, and within a few days I was fine
with no problems. Then about 2 weeks later I started get dizzy spells, after
about 2 weeks I told my doctor, she said it was blood pressure. My BP meds
were to high.

So as of today, I no longer take any BP meds, no Actos, no Metformin, no
diuretics, no anti-depressants and I fell just as I good as I did when I was
30.
I’m happy, walking on air. Also, I finally started to lose weight I, I’ve
lost 19 lbs since March 22. My huge belly is melting away. AND the biggest
thing of all, my triglycerides went from 679 to 242. My cholesterol is 204,
can’t remember when it was ever that low. My A1c has gone from 7.4 to 6.7.
All this on the 5 mg 2 x a day.

So, all the suffering is well worth it.

My Mom who’s 78 is going to start taking it on May 31 Her BS’s are out of
control, and she takes like 20 different meds total. Can’t wait to see what it
does for her.

I wish I could figure out why I lose several pounds in sucession, then gain one
or two, then lose a few more. Like a little roller coaster. Nonetheless, I
have finally broken the 250 barrier for the first time in years.

I am starting to feel the difference in my body. I have friends who tell me I
look as if I am melting away…and I’m not even the wicked witch of the west
after having a bucket of mop water thrown on her.

We had insanity central around here yesterday and I didn’t sleep but a few hours
last night so my BG is a little elevated this morning - 140. I’m sure the
byetta will take it down to something approximating normal within an hour or so.

    Cheers!

    way to go marsha!!!!

could the stalls, gains be attributed to the monthly thingy we women get?

I think that must be water gain (not the losing part, but the gaining
part), which is a pretty normal fluctuation during the week.
Congratulations on your loss! How long has it taken?

Way to go, Mary! Isn’t it amazing what a little spit can do?

My bp is still on the high side. My cholesterol, last tested in
December, is higher than my doctor would like, so maybe the Byetta isn’t
having that kind of effect of me. ‘m on cholesterol-busting supplements
I hope will work, as I don’t want to go on meds for this. We’ll see when
I next test in a few months.

    Hugs,

Marsha, congrats for breaking the barrier! Isn’t that the greatest
feeling? I know exactly how you feel - I was so elated when I broke the
200 mark I was dancing all over the house. LOL

I started losing weight pre-byetta. I actually started working on it around the
end of November of last year. I have lost 25 pounds in total. It has been slow
going, but worth it! The water fluctuation is over more than a week, though.
My body is very resistant to weight loss due to the insulin resistance so I seem
to hold on and hold on, then loose it in a chunk almost overnight. Then nothing
for awhile, then another sudden drop.

Can’t be hormones as I left that issue behind about 5-6 years ago.

I dropped 26lbs rather quickly, but have gained 3 or 4 back and seem to be
stalled - I think grad school homework is part of it, haven’t felt like I
was able to make the time to walk, etc..but CONGRATS! I noticed the jeans I
wore to work today are falling off me.bummer, I get the waist right but the
butt is baggy and I can’t show off my.never mind.

    Hi Carl,

You’re in grad school and I’m in law school which is grad school on steroids. :) I know what it is like to have your butt glued to a chair. I just finished a
3.5 hour lecture on corporate law to prepare for a test next week. The second
10 minute break that came along saw me trying to get the ache out of my butt.

Congrats to you as well on the 26 pounds. I got down to 248 and have been
stalled since then. Partly it is lack of exercise, I know. I considered going
out for a walk today, but it is cold, rainy and miserable - and I had studying
to do. And a web site to build. And graphic arts to download and turn into web
copy. My typing fingers are the best exercised party of my body.

Here is to classrooms with stand up desks!

I hear ya! People at the office yack about current tv and I have no idea

I have been considering trying out a standup desk, just have never actually
    seen one.

since you and marsha don’t have time for tv i will
tell you that there was a thing on tv the other day,
on one of the network news programs , about a schoole
that had done away with desks and were doing standup.
they used tables that were kinda like what you see in
a bar. and the kids stood at them. i am not sure if it
was all classes or just certain ones.

  13. Melvin Anh Says:

Standup desks have been around a long, long time. Here is a link to one site
    which makes ‘em.
