supper and no lantus yet

Friday, April 9th, 2004

bg was 198 at 5 pm so i took my 1000mg of glucophage and 5 of spit. that’s
it!

someone said that they only took their lantus at bedtime. i think my dr
started me on 8 pm but somehow i gradually moved it to 5 pm. with adding
spit and all, i will wait to see what my numbers are at bedtime and then
figure out what to shoot. byetta will be spent by then to so i can relook at
the lantus graph and play dr again. i hate when i do that!

at 5:15 i had a small salad with lettuce, alfalfa sprouts, 1 skinny slice
tomato, and 1 measured tbl of italian dressing. the cheeseburger idea
sounded good so i made a 1/4 ground round burger with 1 slice american
cheese. put it on 2 slices low carb wheat bread and a drop of mayo, mustard,
and ketchup. (daughter brought home whoppers which are one of my favs but i
left them alone). oh and a tsp of pepperonchini’s. water for my drink.

dr. visit today - insulin Novalog- byetta red spots, welts - update

Friday, April 9th, 2004

Hi Everyone,

I finally saw my endo doctor today. I was hoping he would not be
skeptical about what was causing my bumps, welts, and rashes at the
injection sites of byetta. I printed out some comments that were made
on the internet so that he knows that I am not alone. He told me that
I was 1 in 200. I told him there are others and I showed him some
posts. My sugars have been high in the morning. 160’s 170’s and had a
day of over 200 with a high of 300. He told me not to take benedryl.
He did not like the fact that I was taking it 2 x’s a day before my
injection. ( I was told to do this by my primary doctor cause he was
on vacation) He told me to continue with the Claritin and he
prescribed a cream for me to use on the red spots. It is called
mometasone furoate cream. I will let you know how it works.

Fwd: [Diabetes_And_Byetta] Reverse spin on side effects

Wednesday, April 7th, 2004

I had a visit to my doctor today and asked him about not feeling as
full on the 10 pen than I did on the 5. He told me the feeling of
fullness can go away. I agree, with you, wish it wouldn’t leave.

Jodi,

did you follow the directions on byetta.com on using a new pen? You

it’s 12:30 and i just woke up from my nap. i missed the 2 hr pp testing. i
was just going to nap for 1 hour but reset the alarm.

so far here’s what i have:

7 am 158 (this is with a 25% reduction of lantus last night)
9 am 210 (took byetta and ate breakfast which turned out to be 1 egg, 2
sausages, and 1 1/2 pieces low carb toast w/ butter)

i’m not even thinking about food now. coffee yes! got a bit nauseous when i

giving the finger

Sunday, April 4th, 2004

where do you test…….Forearm or finger?

I found that forearm testing is lower than finger testing…
I still get scabs on my fingers no matter how low I set the puncture gage.
And when I test on my arm I get bruises. But better to know what the numbers
are!

side effects of byetta

Friday, April 2nd, 2004

I am a type 2 diabetic, diagnosed about 6 years ago buty probably had
it for sometime before that. I take humalog, lantus glucophage and a
handful of other pills to control blood pressure and cholesterol. I
had poor glucose control until my Dr. put me on byetta as well. I
take 10 mg and have been doing so religiously for the past month.
I’ll admit, I didn’t take the meds like I should have due to
horrendous side effects and prohibitive cost of the drug. My Dr. told
me that he would put me on an insulin pump if I didn’t lower blood
sugars and this convinced me to stick it out with the byetta. My avg.
glucose levels have fallen to 100-107, quite a change from the 150-
160 that I had before.

The side effects worry me though. I am a professional chef and I have
lost my appetite completely, I have to force myself to eat to keep
blood sugar levels from bottoming out. If I take byetta at lunch, I

Byetta pen becoming less effective…

Thursday, April 1st, 2004

Hi everyone,

I don’t post or read much here because things are pretty smooth
sailing with the Byetta. I’ve been on it for 4 months, and the most
major problem I’ve had is the extreme fatigue. But that appears to
have subsided, yeah!

My only other issue is that I’ve noticed is that the last week/few
days of using a pen before it gets used up, the Byetta becomes much
less effective. I rarely take Byetta on the road with me, so it’s not
a matter of me leaving it out too long.

Has anyone else eperienced this too?

TIA,

new pen set-up

Thursday, April 1st, 2004

i did it :) and i wanted to ask if the amount of byetta that was supposed to
come out was just a tiny drop.

oh my bg this morning was only 158 after dropping lantus by 25% last night.
not too bad considering i had chips and dip and 4 baby bananas last night.
will probably take byetta at about 8:30 or 9 before i eat food. nothing but
black coffee till then.
