giving the finger
where do you test…….Forearm or finger?
I found that forearm testing is lower than finger testing…
I still get scabs on my fingers no matter how low I set the puncture gage.
And when I test on my arm I get bruises. But better to know what the numbers
are!

LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL
So do you all go see a diabetic counselor?
I just noticed the subject line. Lizardman is not pleased. LOL Now go stand
in the corner for 20 minutes while you think about what you have done.
By the way, I understand that finger testing is more timely than arm
testing.

I use both. I use fingers when I want to have a feel for rise/fall and I use
forearm for fasting and other times I am not concerned with tracking a
rise/fall. I rarely get scabs on fingers, usually feel just a tap unless I
really screw up the adjustment. I use one lancing system (from the Ascensia)
for the fingers and the one from the One Touch Ultra for the arm. The work
better like that. The Ascensia one does not work well on the arm. I use the
OTU for the palmar side of the thumb (where it joins the palm) as well.
However, it easier to get blood out of my fingers and I don’t really notice it
anymore, which is good, considering how often I check!
Cheers!

I test on the forearm and fingers.

the other day they were demonstrating the freestyle
flash and they did mine on the palm of my hand, kind
of at the base of my thumb. in that meaty pad. i
didn’t hardly feel it.

My only problem is that I do not bleed well there and sometimes can’t get enough
blood in one spot. No point in wasting a strip. Then I usually go stab a
finger and get it over with. It is also harder to milk the area of below the
thumb to get a drop of blood. But I still use it now and then. I have to
pierce a lot deeper on an arm, but that does not seem to matter as it is just a
"thump" 90% of the time. Until I really paid attention to Bernstein’s
directions on getting BG I was having more pain. I still can’t figure out how
the heck he gets blood out of some of the areas he tests in. I’ve tried, but I
don’t bleed there very easily.
Cheers!

Finger is more reliable and indicates changes faster than forearm. I’ve done
the forearm a couple of times and it just wierds me out.

Shoot the same finger in just about the same place every time. Never have an
issue and don’t have a bruised up finger or anything. I dunno. I also inject
about the same area every time with few issues - used to get big ugly
bruises from Lantus.YMMV.

This is good to know! I use D-B needles that are ultra fine and I like using
those. The ascencia lancettes are much finer. When we see the doctor on Friday
I’ll ask about getting a supply of B-D ultrafine lancets. I bet that would help
DH, who hates getting tested. - Marsha

I almost always use the same finger unless I have to poke it a couple of
times then I move to another. No scabs, not nuttn. Forearm testing just
really wierds me out for some reason. I have done it a couple of times and
just stopped.
_____
In the 8 or so years that I have been testing, I have only used the 4
fingers on my left hand. No scabs. Just lots of little dots LOL

yep my ring finger on m y left hand is my prime
target, i reuse lancets til i can’t use them anymore
and i reuse my needles til i have to screw them in . i
have never had a problem. the only time i ever had
anything close to an infection was a sterile abcess
caused by a sterile needle. i do take the needle off
my pen every time and store it in the box with the pen
in the fridge. i guess i get about 3-4 days out of
each penneedle. and you are right, we ain’t sharing
the spit. so what are we gonna catch.
