Hello..

I’m 6′3" tall 314 lbs and working 50 Hrs/week + finishing up an MBA.
(So I’m very stressed). I’m a Software Engineer by trade, Electrical
Engineer by degree, and have done okay (but not great– 7’s) with
A1C’s up until about 6 months ago.

I’ve been T2 for about 14 1/2 years– I’m currently almost 37, so I
was a relatively young T2.

I’m hoping that with my already low carb diet (too low for the
nutritionists to like it here) adding Byetta will do the trick.

My father and especially my grandfather were both T2’s. My
grandfather used large quantities of Insulin and (I believe because of
that) died of congestive heart failure. Neither my father or
grandfather were overweight. (Father died of Lung Cancer, the cigs

got him before the diabetes..)

Because of this I’m trying to do everything to avoid Insulin and
weight gain and everything to try to fight the Insulin Resistance.

Hopefully Byetta will be the ticket. Wish me luck. I normally have a
strong stomach, so I’m hopeful..

One question: Is the Byetta pack good enough for a 45 minute commute
2x a day or should I do something better?

Hey, Fred! Hi from Iowa City.

I’m new to Byetta, too. I work second shift and have to carry my pen with me
to work — the travel pack should be fine for 45 minute commutes as long as
you can refrigerate it while you’re at work, otherwise you’ll have to find
something longer term. I’ve had a lot of success using a small, briefcase
size thermos with 3-4 cubes of ice. I wrap the pen in a small piece of
bubble wrap, place it in a zipper-type plastic bag, and put it in the
thermos reservoir side up (to prevent it from touching the ice to avoid
freezing). This keeps it cold enough for my walk to and from work and all
through my shift — about 9-10 hours total. (I kept a thermometer in there
the first few times to be sure.) The ice is barely beginning to melt by
them, so I’m sure it would be good for considerably longer and you could
always replace the ice if necessary.

The zipper on the travel pack they sent me broke the first time I zipped it
    up.

Yeah.. did that for the first time today.. it seemed to be okay.
The case seems good to store the pen in as the extra thermal mass in
the case will help to keep the pen from freezing.

I’ve been on it now two days and it keeps getting better and better.
My only fear is that I’ll start slipping in my diet because for the
first time in years, I can apparently get away w/it.
