lowering lantus question

ok, my dr is clueless about byetta. i realized that when he thought the
sample pen he was giving me was empty cause he didn’t know about the new pen
set-up you have to do. he also never told me to lower my lantus dose the
night before. so i called my pharmacist and asked him what he thought. he
told me to call the dr but said "you definitely have to lower it". he
refused to even guess by how much.

i had planned on lowering it by half to 40 units tonight but am wondering if
that will be enough. i take the lantus at 5 pm. i usually eat dinner about
5:30 or 6 pm. i have been running in the high 200’s about that time but i
really don’t think lantus gives me 24 hour coverage anymore. i wake to bg’s
of anywhere from 80ish to 140.

hubby is normally home on tuesday nights but now will have to work. he won’t
leave till 1:30 am and will be up at 1 am. i try to be in bed by 11 pm so he

can get me up if i need to.

i know the lantus peaks upwards for about 5 hours or so and then is supposed
to get stable. is it safe to say that if i get up and test at 1 am i would
be ok for the middle of the night? daughter and fiancé will be home tonight
but their bedroom is on another side of the house and they wouldn’t hear me
if something happened. when i get to the 40’s i tend not to be able to
function to well or walk. i will keep a tester at my bedside as well as
glucose tablets.

so how often should i test? well, wait…i won’t take the spit till the
morning so i should be safe tonight. so i guess it’s just how much to cut
the lantus. i think daughter is home tomorrow after school at 2:45 pm.

is my paranoia coming through? hehehe. i told you i have panic attacks!

Jodi, I am just NOW starting to lower my Lantus, VERY slowly. I have only
ever had ONE low in the middle of the night, and it woke me up. :) Good luck!

he’s got to learn about the new stuff so i’ll just help him along :) most of
his patients are really older and i think he just sticks to what is easier
    for them.

I had to drop 50u Lantus a day almost immediately after starting the 10 pen
    in Jan.
