getting ready for 1st dose

so tomorrow is the big day for me. i will take the shots before breakfast
and supper. a few questions though.

i take the shots an hour before eating those 2 meals?

do i take my glucophage at the same time or wait an hour?

should i lower my 5 pm lantus dose tonight?

doctor never said anything about that to me. he spent more time dealing with
the lung/sinus issues.

any other last words?

Jodi, I can address this one! :) You take it UP TO an hour before your
mealtime. It can be immediately before - usually how I do it. Its effectiveness
    is
    cut after an hour.
    HTH!

I would suggest watching your bg’s very closely over the first 24 hours if you
don’t lower your Lantus. I had readings in the 40’s and 50’s the first day
until I figured out I needed to cut my Lantus drastically. I reduced it in half
the second day and continued to reduce it until now I use none. Pat in ID

    Jodi,
you take your shot WITHIN an hour of eating. the
closer to eating the better they say to ward off the
nausea. i take mine after i have set the food on the
table and am getting ready to sit down

go ahead an take your glucophage at your regular time

as far as th e lantus is concerned, not an easy
answer, I think it was John who never took his again,
i am on Levemir instead of lantus now, but i have had
to wean mine, i have weaned down from 60 to 10 units
but by wed will have completely cut out my pills. my
doc wanted me to wean those first. so you are just
gonna have to wing it for a few days. i would think

not take it the first night and see how your numbers
run, you may have to take a unit or two for a bit to
keep them under control,or you may not need any.
depends on the dose you take. some people have had
sudden and dramatic drops in their blood sugar. for
me, although my drop haas been dramatic. from 600 to
120 it was n ot over night. it drops in increments. so
you will just have to see. you may can cut it
completely, or you may have to drop by a few units at
    a time

ok, i think i will lower dose to 40 units tonight. will see what i am at in
the morning and can always get some humalog if need be. have to take d-i-l
to town tomorrow for a gny appt. then tuesday we drive half an hour for
another appt. i like to drive her in my car and then she can sit in back
    with the baby.

will take crackers along just like when jen was pregnant. i’ll take the spit
right before i eat my 2 meals. sounds like i get more out of it that way.

    wish me luck!
