Jodi,
The nutrition concern was more my problem than my physician's. When
I called her to give her an update about my first two weeks with the
lizard (lost 11 pounds and the low calorie intake - 750-800), she
wasn't even fazed by the low calories. I told her I was drinking
the Slim Fast for the nutrients but she said not to worry, that in
the long run, everything would settle out. I'm hoping that my diet
changes don't modify upwards too much - I'm banking on "21 days
makes a habit" - and hope that I can eat to live not live to cram
something in my mouth just because it's there. I have also learned
that I can eat just about anything I want, just not near as much of
it (especially pasta). It's very cost efficient. A Lean Cuisine
will do me for two meals!

Jodi, fear can be paralyzing and we all experience it at one time or
another. You are worthy of positive things in your life. It will be OK.

like marsha said. i am not intentionally limiting, but
if i eat more, i WILL throw up. not i MIGHT throw up,
i WILL. so in the long run, 600 retained calories is
better than 1200 thrown up calories.

i don't think so, cause i was out of them for about a
month and i threw up just as much then as i do with
them. i do see how that could be a problem though.

I know what doctors say, but the new low calories life extension studies say
that 1000 is not insufficient. I think 400-500 is pretty low, BUT people with
PCOS and some other health problems can't lose weight on "normal" diets.

I gain weight at 1500 calories a day. Weight Watchers would turn my blood into
pure glucose and I'd end up looking like the Goodyear Blimp even more than I do
now.

We're not talking living for 40 years on this, we're talking about doing what we
need to do to get our BG down and lose the weight we need to lose so we can live
at least a semi-normal life.

Most low-carbers are better nourished than most folks think because we don't
have any empty calories wasted on breads and the like.

<!--more-->
For those who can tank up on carbs and calories and still lose weight and not be
on huge amounts of insulin and whatnot - more power to 'em. I know I'm not one
of 'em and neither is Annie who seems to be my lost biological twin in terms of
an inability to lose weight and deal with BG issues.

Cheers!
Marsha
My 2 week BG level is now 110 according to my hand-dandy meter and my 30 day
level averages out to about 140. Wheeeeee!

i started tracking my intake on fitday and i think i
hit 600 one day. the rest of the time in the 400-500
cal range

My doctor told me not to go lower than 1200 to 1500 calories a day. He said
I wouldn't get proper nutrition on less. Janet

hmmm...if that happened to me i could lose a bunch of weight. is there a
novena to the lizard king? dear jim morrison...please make me not eat.
please make me not vomit.

for those wondering what the heck that was, jim morrison was the lead singer
for the band "the doors". he was known as the lizard king. if you want to
know why, you can search the net.

jodi

Hi Jodi,

It is not too low if the alternative is losing it all or wishing you would
I don't eat more than about 800 calories a day on a normal day, sometimes
1000. I don't vomit and I don't get nauseated per se, but I do get very
<!--more-->
uncomfortable, as I have since dinner last night. Sometimes less is more.

i started taking lots of vitamins when i first went on atkins years ago.
they really upset my stomach. could that be a problem for you?

jodi

yes it is. but if i go one bite over, it is curtains
for me.. or toilet bowls... i do get the best bang for
the buck though. i eat meat, low carb veggies. stuff
like that so that i get the best nutrition from it i
can. i also take lots and lots of vitamins. i am
hoping that i will be able to eat a bit more as the
nausea decreases. i am hopin that when i get off the
glucophage all together my nausea will subside a bit
as i think it is related to when my sugars dip
