last meal
so hubby works nights and on his nights off he sleeps till about 8 pm and
expects me to cook then. ok, not expects me to cook but wants to eat. i told
him since i am starting the byetta monday we could order in pizza. it was
fabulous! so good that this morning i had 2 square cut pieces for breakfast.
by 7:30 i was having=my second cup of coffee and boom! stomach churning,
nausea, run towards the bathroom…only made it to the kitchen garbage can.
pizza was not fabulous the second time around.
what the you know what? first off, i mentioned that i don’t like to throw
up. then there’s the fact that grandma is no longer with us. i went through
3 pregnancies and 3 bouts of morning sickness with avoiding the actual deed
for the most part. i freaked out…cried, screamed to wake the husband. he
thought i fell or something but when he saw it was just throwing up he gave
me some crackers and asked what caused it.
could it be all the emails about the possible impending problems with
nausea? i’m almost terrified at the thought of this happening monday!

just getting your skills honed in case you need them
for the actual event……..btw. once you start
byetta, be caustious with tomatoe products. not that
they will affect YOU , but they hate me with a
vengence. in any form.

thanks annie. you made me giggle. it probably is psychological. hubby would
tell you most things in my life are. ever since i quit seeing my shrink,
life has been better for me (and less drugs to take now too). i suffer from
severe panic attacks which she put me on xanax for. also get on and off
bouts of agoraphobia which don’t bother me in the least bit. what killed it
for me was when she insisted i go on meds for my bi polar which has been
under control since i was 17. i had a great shrink back then that taught me
to use biofeedback to control the swings. new dr couldn’t believe that
worked for me so she put me on meds for that too. problem is that i have a
fear of drugs that sedate me so i quit taking them too. and i was on 4 to 6
shots a day of insulins then so it was really too much for me to always be
popping or injecting something.
ok, there we go. honing my skills waiting for it to happen. you are correct.
fear of new drugs!
oh and the day i quit the shrink was the day she suggested to me that i had
something or other because one of my kids told me i said something horrible
to him that i never said. i mentioned it and when i got home i looked up
what she told me i had and it was another word for multiple personalities!
my son has since told me that i may not have actually said those things to
him. it was supposedly a few months after my oldest son died in a car
accident and youngest son was feeling guilty (though no reason to) about his
brother passing away.
ah as my oldest son would sing "sometimes the lights all shining on me,
other times i can barely see, lately it occurs to me, what a long strange
trip it’s been".

Jodi,
You sound like you are like me in the nausea/vomiting aspect. I
will stand in the bathroom and cry if I think I’ll have to throw up -
- so — this stuff trained me in 2 (yes two!) days. I don’t eat
anything high fat, nothing strongly spiced and no more than about 4
cups of food a day - any more and I’m getting that sicky feeling!!
uh oh! I’ve been tracking my intake and I’m eating about 750-800
calories a day. Not too good for my nutrition and I’ve started to
supplement and I drink Slim-Fast in self defense for lunch every day
(the lowest sugar brand - just for the nutrients). My 2hr post is
still low and it fills me up somewhat.
It won’t take too many of those "on the edge of nausea" days to get
you on the right track. I’m three weeks down the road and have
finally started to ease up on the morning nausea but I’m still
careful!
Best to your journey with the lizard!

i think this morning may have just been nerves. i am excited about the
prospect of starting byetta but i am sort of scared about what will happen
and if i will be alone when it does.

Well, it was a long day without eating. I just could not get past dinner last
night. I finally managed to eat a little bit of beef soup and some fried cheese
tonight. I actually feel less full than I did before I ate. My BG has been
91-110 today and I’ve not taken any metformin as I didn’t want to go too low.
I’ve been putting away the green tea, though. At least I no longer feel like I
ate a camel - now it is merely a medium size horse.
Cheers!

yes it is. but if i go one bite over, it is curtains
for me.. or toilet bowls… i do get the best bang for
the buck though. i eat meat, low carb veggies. stuff
like that so that i get the best nutrition from it i
can. i also take lots and lots of vitamins. i am
hoping that i will be able to eat a bit more as the
nausea decreases. i am hopin that when i get off the
glucophage all together my nausea will subside a bit
as i think it is related to when my sugars dip

Hi Jodi,
It is not too low if the alternative is losing it all or wishing you would I
don’t eat more than about 800 calories a day on a normal day, sometimes 1000. I
don’t vomit and I don’t get nauseated per se, but I do get very uncomfortable,
as I have since dinner last night. Sometimes less is more.

hmmm…if that happened to me i could lose a bunch of weight. is there a
novena to the lizard king? dear jim morrison…please make me not eat.
please make me not vomit.
for those wondering what the heck that was, jim morrison was the lead singer
for the band "the doors". he was known as the lizard king. if you want to
know why, you can search the net.

My doctor told me not to go lower than 1200 to 1500 calories a day. He said
I wouldn’t get proper nutrition on less. Janet
March 12th, 2004 at 12:01 pm
I know what doctors say, but the new low calories life extension studies say
that 1000 is not insufficient. I think 400-500 is pretty low, BUT people with
PCOS and some other health problems can’t lose weight on "normal" diets.
I gain weight at 1500 calories a day. Weight Watchers would turn my blood into
pure glucose and I’d end up looking like the Goodyear Blimp even more than I do
now.
We’re not talking living for 40 years on this, we’re talking about doing what we
need to do to get our BG down and lose the weight we need to lose so we can live
at least a semi-normal life.
Most low-carbers are better nourished than most folks think because we don’t
have any empty calories wasted on breads and the like.
For those who can tank up on carbs and calories and still lose weight and not be
on huge amounts of insulin and whatnot - more power to ‘em. I know I’m not one
of ‘em and neither is Annie who seems to be my lost biological twin in terms of
an inability to lose weight and deal with BG issues.
Cheers!
Marsha
My 2 week BG level is now 110 according to my hand-dandy meter and my 30 day
level averages out to about 140. Wheeeeee!
March 13th, 2004 at 7:21 am
i don’t think so, cause i was out of them for about a
month and i threw up just as much then as i do with
them. i do see how that could be a problem though.
some of those vitamins are awful. and you burp them
for hours.
March 13th, 2004 at 3:57 pm
like marsha said. i am not intentionally limiting, but
if i eat more, i WILL throw up. not i MIGHT throw up,
i WILL. so in the long run, 600 retained calories is
better than 1200 thrown up calories.

Jodi, fear can be paralyzing and we all experience it at one time or
another. You are worthy of positive things in your life. It will be OK.

Jodi,
The nutrition concern was more my problem than my physician’s. When
I called her to give her an update about my first two weeks with the
lizard (lost 11 pounds and the low calorie intake - 750-800), she
wasn’t even fazed by the low calories. I told her I was drinking
the Slim Fast for the nutrients but she said not to worry, that in
the long run, everything would settle out. I’m hoping that my diet
changes don’t modify upwards too much - I’m banking on "21 days
makes a habit" - and hope that I can eat to live not live to cram
something in my mouth just because it’s there. I have also learned
that I can eat just about anything I want, just not near as much of
it (especially pasta). It’s very cost efficient. A Lean Cuisine
will do me for two meals!
