Injection site welts
I’ve read a few of the archived posts on this subject and it looks like
the welts I’m getting may be similar to what other people are getting.
The injection site swells up to the size of an American dime or quarter
(coin) with a red dot in the middle where the needle went in. The welts
itch like crazy and so far they seem to last at least a week.
This started after I’d been on Byetta for several months. I’m on my
second 10 pen.
My endo has no idea what’s causing the welts, but she told me to stop
injecting until they go away and then start again to see if they come
back. What are other people’s doctors saying?
I wonder if whatever is causing the welts could trigger a full-blown
anaphylactic reaction.

May I suggest trying something like Zyrtec? I take it for other allergies and
I’m betting that it helps any reaction I could develop. It is an idea, anyway.
I have never gotten any welts from Byetta, but as a person with allergies I live
on allergy meds, so that may be what saves me from them.
I also don’t have any nausea or stomach problems (unless I eat too much) and I
attribute it to the small prevacid dose I take every day to deal with my GERD.
Best of fortune to you!

When I got them (and they stopped), I just would spray a little Benadryl
anti-itch spray on them. The welt would stop getting red, and the itch went
away. I’d try that before I’d try taking an oral allergy med.

I happen to feel that the degree of a person’s intelligence is directly
reflected by the number of conflicting attitudes she can bring to bear on the
same topic.

Thanks serenegirl and Tina for the suggestions about anti-allergy meds and
spray. I’ll ask my doctor about these.
