Andrew,
This is the blog I found the information. You have to scroll down the
page to find where the thread begins but there is a lot of chatter on
this problem.

There is a lot of chatter, but it’s not a large number of people. There are a
few who have had a problem, but there are many, many of us who post on that blog
that have no skin problems. Pat in ID

Pat,
I do not think it is just a few. Granted, more people do not have a
reaction than do, but I think it is more than a few. I think it is a
side effect of the spit that should be addressed by lilly. Tina just
posted, that she gets bumps or welts. They tell you about other side
effects. They tell you possible drug interactions. Who decides that
it is not important to inform a patient that you can have welts,
rashes, itchy etc.? especially when itchy and blotches are symptoms of
an allergic reaction, which could be serious for someone’s health.
Not everyone that uses byetta belongs to a diabetes group, or blog on
the internet. I am not saying that byetta is not good. I am thrilled
to be using it. I will do what ever possible to continue using it as
long as I can take it. I just think because it is new, that the drug
company should step up to the plate and be responsible. We do not
want another vioxx problem. If that happens everyone that this drug
has been helping will lose this wonderful treatment.

They say it can be a reaction to a preservative called mannitol. This
may explain why they benedryl helps you tina.

Hi all,
Having been on the 10 mcg dose just a day now (started yesterday) I have noticed
a decided difference in the amount I can eat. Before, the 5 mcg Byetta did not
seem to affect how much I ate, now it does.
For dinner I had:
1 small salad w/ 1/2 avocado
1 tbsp dressing
2 tbsp jello
3 oz meat
6 almonds
2 hours later I am burping and relatively uncomfortable.
I can really understand how someone would end up nauseated or vomit if they
attempt to actually eat much at one sitting.
I did okay this morning w/ 2 eggs and 4 strips of bacon (would adjust that to 2
bacon next time)
Did okay with lunch, a side salad at Wendy’s.
Dinner is NOT going to be this big again. I suspect were I not already on
prevacid that I would not be doing so well.
Hopefully, this too shall pass before bedtime or it will be a late night for me.
So, for newbies or people upping the dose, do pay attention to what you think
your capacity is regarding volume.

Hi Rebecca,
Well, it took until 1 a.m. before my stomach was clear enough to allow me to lay
down and get some sleep. Because it was so late I slept in a bit this morning.
My BG was 136 when I got up! Woo-hee! I am ON MY WAY! Usually it is in the
160’s to the 180’s because of dawn effect.
This morning I decided a smoothie was the way to go since I now have carbs to
burn out of my allotment of 20.
They are so easy to make! Yogurt, Atkins milk, a little cream to thicken the
milk up, a little frozen fruit, a couple scoops of vanilla protein powder and
some Wyler’s SF lemonade mix and some SF strawberry-kiwi mix and mix. I don’t
always follow Dana Carpenter’s recipes to the letter, after all.
I’m feeling okay - have food (which I didn’t really want, but which I know I
need) in my tummy. It tasted good. I know it will hold me for a good long
time. I’ve got my Byetta and my metformin on board and I’m ready for my day.
As long as I keep my food intake to discreet portions (or in this case,
semi-solid) I think it will be fine.
My energy is up as the BG levels fall.
Cheers to the lizard!
Marsha
